After doing my own reading online , i have garnered these few points
Civil Engineering
Cons:
1. dirty , on site job
2. low pay due to influx of foreigners , lacklustre prospects in sg due to small land area, engineers conferred jobs equivalent of technicians
3. tough competition in uni , hard to study engin ?
Pros:
1. interest in structural science and mechanics
2. good pay with management roles with career progression
3. can transfer to banking /finance
wrt to this , does a 2nd major in biz/accountancy (NTU) or biz analytics (NUS) help ? How much does it help ?
Computer Engineering
Cons:
1. Tough competition w/ foreign students
2. not a huge fan of coding , but can do it. interested in hardware , but heard it is very in depth (?)
Pros:
1. good job prospects
Information Systems
Cons:
1. unsure about extent of coding , may be v rigourous
Pros:
1. good job prospects , big data the next big thing
2. interested in biz analytics w/ tech as part of the specialisation , and the concept of IS
Business Management
Cons:
1. tough competition
2. degree is not specialised - too general (?)
Pros:
1. good job prospects- sg financial hub
2. interested in analytics and working in a bank/finance as consultant
Additional concerns :
Does not staying in halls (SMU) detract alot from the joys of student life ?
Civil engin NUS OR NTU ? keeping in mind the difficulty in getting at least second upper honours , and availability of biz 2nd majors
