I've been offered:
NUS-Mechanical Engineering
NTU-Aerospace Engineering
SMU-Information Systems

I'm a graduate with an engineering diploma. I applied for Information Systems in NUS, but they did not give it to me. I really want to go to Information Systems and do coding because I think that I'll like it. Right now, I'm already learning Java til 6AM pretty much everyday as a hobby and preparation for the course. However, I heard a lot of ppl saying that SMU SIS is a killer course and I'm afraid that I won't be able to cope. I want to at least get a good honors. I really don't want to go in and end up dropping out at year 1/2. Another thing I'm considering is taking a masters program, I wonder if get accepted into a prestigious masters program(Overseas or Local) if I'm a graduate from SMU Any students or alumni from any of the above course willing to share their experience? Also, what are the languages taught in SMU?

I'm considering an MBA or something like a IT-Finance/IT-Business masters. I'm not sure if local masters are prestigious. And yes, I would like to work in Singapore but I would love it if the company allows me to go overseas for work from time to time and I also want to keep my options open in case i change my mind and decide to work overseas. I'm not so sure if local masters are prestigious.BTW, how did you know that SMU ppl are going to upenn?

SMU ppl got into upenn was learnt when I chatting with Wharton admin guy. U can find the info online via LinkedIn etc

Here is someone from SMU who went to Yale is that good enough?
http://som.yale.edu/our-programs/doctoral-program/careers/our-alumni

If MBA then is not about where u did your under but your career profile. If u are from SPU but Google mid level manager no issue going to Harvard MBA.

Masters on other hand going to UK uni such as LSE etc not hard from local ivy. It's relatively easier to get into uk masters.

USA top bschool many times do not offer masters for freshie.

IT-finance masters? No idea what is that, you need to research what's out there.

IT-business is known as Mgmt Info system or info system in USA.
U.K. also plenty of those

ISM is a multi discipline course. This means it isn't just about coding, it's about management of the system and stuff. If you want coding, go for com science.

During my early years in poly i made the mistake of designing system based on what I think is good without regards for performances or user thoughts.

During FYP, I was doing a medical system for a hospital / school. I thought my first app was rather awesome but I discover the user(doctors) wasn't using the app as I have intended. As such, I modify the app user interface to a simpler version. Despite containing less function, they were much happier with the app and find it easier to use.

My tips to you don't practice java for the sake of practicing . Try to do something an app or something. For example IPPT calculator.. Try doing an android app for it =). It will provide you a direction.

Going to university should't simply be getting a good grades and graduate. It's about having fun and most important learn. Cherish the privilege of being able to study. If you do well there's a direct master program. Killer or not, hardwork is honored. So long you do your part can liao right? haha.

And oh ya. Hope to see you in class.

masters in IT management? ... might as well go study on Data mining.

dun go into traditional engineering in sg unless u wan to go into sales. there is no indepth job of engineering in sg.

which is one and only major reason stop me from returning SG, i will hv to totally give up engineering for good if i wan a good pay

another thing - if u are not good in A math in Olevel, and din score A for poly maths with breeze, you will SUFFER and CRY everyday in ntu-nus. by the time u are in local uni for engineering, u r expected to know all about advance math theorem at ur finger tips and apply it not learn while u study the module

There's poor pay in engineering? I have distinction for all math modules.

going to computer science for coding is a wrong perspective that many has (some ppl will argee, some not). After entering NUS com sci, i hasn't coded any real stuff for a long time.

i used to develop and publish my apps to the app store. but now everyday i am stuck doing maths and sci. I am not saying that is not important but the real way to learn coding in my opinion is to create an apps with practical use. Actually hackathon is a good chance to learn too.

I was from poly with a Dip in IT, the poly math really looks like a joke when i think back now. Getting a distinction (which i did) for poly is useless for uni math. i can't even understand some concepts unless i tons of hours on it.

if u dun even have the distinction in poly or Olevel ,in uni it is gg to be even worse.

My strong foundation in Olevel A math saved me alot. I stop doing math for 6 years before heading to uni. and this very same foundation save me alot of trouble. becos in uni, u r required to know Ap Gp, Discrete math, Laplace and Matrices as basic knowledge.

And people i know who only done E maths and then poly maths, was struggling to study math in year 3 while i was edy working on the assignements. u dun understand concepts becos, from the start, u never understood it, u prolly was program by schools to memo enuff for exams.

yes, having a distinction helps a little but amath helps a lot.

actually i have to admit i never fare in exam because i cannot memorise anything. if there is anything that involve lab, i surely do well.
