Enquiry on purchasing 3TB hard-disk

Hi,

As I have a drive that is going to fail soon, I'm currently looking to replace it.

So is it better for me to go for the cheaper option (Hitachi) or should I get WD Red?

I only using it for my general storage usage (E.g. few hours per day, longer on weekends).

From what I read, the general consent is that all drive are equal and the failure rate is base on luck.

Need some advises, many thanks.

How much is the Hitachi? But it seems that WD Red is somewhat better than the WD Green with just a slight premium, so I will probably get the WD Red too.

Hmmm.... new WD Red at Bizgram is $177 leh.

Taking the warranty into account, 12 Aug 2012 means a remaining warranty of 1.5 years left. So $150 is a little too high.

@kiwi8 Hmm... Thanks for the reply. I guess it should be pretty reliable then.

@pa9797 Thanks for the link, but I preferred to have a new drive. Also Kiwi8 do have a point too.

@jtjt00 As mention previously, you never know if you'll get a decent drive. It may just DOA or it may last for many years.

@killerslayer92 I've seen many negative review for it though. Currently not confidence regarding it.

@kashix Well, there is no guarantee that it will not fail. That to me is a type of luck. Bad luck means you get a DOA, good luck means your drive last very long.

Currently, there's not much negative review regarding Hitachi. I'm guessing that the data pool for it is not big enough. Most people would normally go for either Seagate or WD.
