Hello all, I have this weird issue with POST/boot sometimes
My rig is as follows;
4790K + ASUS Z97M-Plus, Factual Design S24
EVGA 770 SC
Samsung 840 EVO + 3 WD 2TB drives [2 Black and 1 Green]
Corsair RM850

The system usage itself is fine and no BSOD, weird slow down etc;
100% core usage with heavy 3D rendering, no issues
Heavy gaming, no issues
Runs long hour, no issues
Event viewer, no issues

But I've been having this erratic boot issue from time to time where the computer does not even POST. Here's how the problem usually get resolved;

1)I have to remove my GPU and it will POST with integrated HDMI from mobo, with all the BIOS settings reset to default by itself. Reinsert GPU to mobo later on usually works

2)Wait for a few hours without unplugging the GPU from mobo, works sometimes. BIOS settings reset to default by itself.

I can be using this system now, switch it off and turn it on again minutes later, and get this issue. GPU has been tested on other rig and it works well... So is it a PSU problem? :s11:

Cheers, appreciate the replies

looks like port problem to me...
I thought it's a bad PCI-E lane as well... But I've swapped my 770 for a 9800GT when I get the problem and it boot up fine.

i would try with another psu
Trying out with a CoolerMaster 750W now, still same problem

Hmm assuming it's the SSD, disconnecting it completely from the mobo/PSU should resolve it. It's still the same, but at least now I know there's a bug with the SSD :s13:

I've noticed that everytime I get this problem, reseating my 770 works like 80% of the times. Currently breadboarding the rig now... To recap the problem/symptoms;

*Pressing the Power Switch to turn on the computer results in multiple clicks from the PSU fans, which means it's turning on/off multiple times rapidly in that one second. No beeps or POST or visual, every other hardware seems to run normally (Fans turning, HDD running, lights on etc).

*Tried booting without RAM, gets the memory error beeps. Otherwise it's the single beep [With or without GPU when working properly] and POST successfully.

*Plug in and out the 770 off from the PCI-E 3.0 seems to works most of the time. Can't try the other PCI slots with the 770 because of blockage from mobo components. The testing 9800GT seems to work 100% of the time.

*BIOS profile is reset to default everytime this happens

I'm thinking it's either a mobo or GPU problem... The weirdest part is that I don't get any slow down, BSOD or any kind of problems at all when using the system/gaming/rendering. I ran FurMark [For GPU] and Intel Burn Test [For Chip] simultaneously for 30mins without issues.
Checked mobo capacitors for any leaks/swelling... All seem fine
Reset CMOS + jumper, changed battery too.

Only have the problem at that point when booting up the system... Any ideas? :s11:
