Is this disk your OS disk. If not, disconnect it and your windows should boot properly.

To recover your data from this disk, try disabling the SMART in your bios. This will allow your disk to boot up, if it is not too badly damaged. You can then they to recover your most important first. File by file.

If possible, boot at SAFE mode for this recovery.

Don't bother to image as your disk would already have lots of bad sectors that SMART has marked as BAD. You'll never be able to complete imaging, but will cause more damage to the platters or the heads.

Unfortunately, it is my OS disk so I have to use other means to retrieve.

No I mean just an ssd and hdd. Of course if can get OS would be good but I don't think possible under 200 for the capacity I'm looking at which is 2 TB. Current hdd is 1TB.

ah i see, i mistaken ur part on the SSD on OS with other programs.

but may i ask if 120GB enough for ur OS and programs?
if can u can consider this : ZOTAC T500 120GB SSD @53.90+3
but still i think they increase the price for the SSD by 90cent

next will be Toshiba 2TB @98 under tradepac.
So total u pay for $151.90

if not enough u can go for 240GB same brand @83.50+3
total u pay $184.5

Hmm SSD expensive right? And would I be able to use in my existing system? Sorry not very familiar with SSD haha.

So I can just use the same Windows 7 cd?

Can, just use back the same cd and activate the windows online

yes all SSD are 2.5" and u can use screw to secure them on the hdd bay (if there is any) or mounting point for fixing ur ssd onto your case. (by right every case should have)

well den just let updates since with SSD u can download those update fast and install them fast maybe 10 mins max for everything to be done?

Hmm my NZXT Beta Evo case has a screwless rail design, and it's designed for 3.5" drives. Not sure if I can just screw the SSD onto the case or bay?

Thanks! I just bought a new ssd and finished installing windows on it. It runs so fast! Now comes the problem. If I plug in my old drive, it stops at starting windows for a long time, even though boot device is set to my new ssd. If I unplug it, windows starts normally. And when I plug in my old drive once it's booted to windows, it doesn't get recognised.

From the looks of it your HDD is failing quite badly and I'm not even sure how much data u can recover...anyway have u turn on ACHI from your bios? And is there anyway to use hot swap from your system?

Nope my AHCI is not on I think. And in my device manager the controllers are ata 0 and ata 1. If I'm not wrong, they used to be AHCI Serial ata 1.0 I think. For hot swap, it needs to be AHCI right?

damn u should set it on AHCI to be even faster. but u have ATA? just wat is ur board?

yes u need to set AHCI mode on your bios so u can do a hot swap, den once ur system is boot up and insert ur hdd to read. if not maybe get a new cable to read your hdd.
