Folks,

I got this error message when trying to backup my 6+ on iTunes today: itunes could not back up iphone because an error occurred when reading or writing to the phone.

Uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes didn't help; deleting the backup file also didn't help. Yesterday it was still ok as I could still do my backup.

Presently on iOS 10.3.3 and running Windows 10. I managed to backup on iTunes on my old laptop running Windows 7 w/o issues. Also backed up on iCloud w/o issues.

Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try uninstalling itunes completely and then install an older version of itunes that worked instead. Should be some apple drivers that got corrupted by some updates.

Tried that, older version of iTunes can't install if the previous version was a newer one. Overcame the issue temporarily by creating another Microsoft account on the same laptop then managed to backup my iPhone on it. But this is a damn leche work around method, not a real fix. Probably need to reformat HDD, damn sian!

I have that issue sometimes on iTunes backup.

My solution I have tried that worked are either of these:

1. deleted or rename old backup folder
2. use original cable or another better usb cable.
3. kill all apps in phone, then restart, then backup in itunes.
4. dont physically move phone during backup. because sometimes the cable have slight loose connection.

Reformatted my laptop's HDD yesterday. Now everything is working well again & iTunes is able to backup my 6+ w/o any issue now.
