All phone are dual SIM, not triple SIM. Only 2 SIMs can be active at a time. If you enable a eSIM u will need to deactivate one of your physical SIM.

It is probably for future while every telcos in every countries have all these implemented. eSIM enabled devices is available since Apple Watch is firstly launched and since iPhone Xs. Again being an 'advance' country, not even the biggest two telcos have offered the eSIM yet. Same like since long people have been complaining no 5G on iPhone yet but even until now there is not even an 5G plan in lion city yet. Hardware is ready long ago but telcos are not even ready.

This is for many years to go at least. ESIM should still be best reserved for main line which you have control while physical sim is a wildcard that can fit anything. You have no control how soon the countries you are visiting will have eSIM ready.

and i dun think switching eSIM profiles will be totally free across telcos. i know there are charges involved to reactivate your eSIM profile. it is not as easy as "on the fly" until the charges are waived permanently by all telcos even it can be done in lion city but no one can guarantee all countries telcos will do the same too.

so for many many many years to come.
below scenario will then be flexible for anyone. below scenario has minimum physical card ejection needed too.

1) main line - eSIM (one no need to switch whatever profiles anytime until u change telco. same like u dun eject the physical sim out of ur main line unless u change telco or change phone too)
2) secondary line - physical SIM (no matter which country which telco the SIM is, it can work certainly and you only eject the physical card to swap when you visiting different countries)

It is kind of funny that we supposed to be an "advanced" country but we still have no eSIM. In fact, there are already other "less developed" countries now with eSIM.

Don't get me started on 5G. We do not have a proper 5G network thanks to not choosing Huawei. Imagine Nigeria somewhat already have a working proper 5G now and comparing that to Singapore. Lmao.

At the moment, no eSIM on StarHub. Only M1, Circle Life and not sure MyRepublic have eSIM or not.

Singtel deployed using Ericsson and Nokia, and we're the first country in the world to have 95% outdoor 5G SA coverage. Sure it's a small area, but that is not insignificant.

My sense is they want to keep it a premium feature for market segmentation and cost-recovery reasons. They need to recover their capex, and they can't do it by giving the service for free.

Until they have recovered their capex, it makes sense to reserve it for the customers who are actually paying for it. Eventually this should trickle down to the wider user base, but I don't see it at the outset.

Like it or not, Gomo is still budget - perhaps "Premium Budget", but still not their mainstream service as it does not carry their branding.

5G is critical for Singapore's growth in business applications. Cannot just reserved SA for premium. We'll be in trouble as a country.

Yep. It's not a matter of allowing consumers to cheap out if it can be monetised. Right now, recouping Capex is more important, since that's hundreds of millions of dollars to recover, in addition to projected long-term operating/maintenance costs.

That's not even considering overheads that include salaries, bonuses, dividends, etc.

Guess there are consumers who just want it and want it cheap, without a care for whether it's detrimental to the long-term commercial viability of the telco.

my area the SingTel 5G NA only have 2 signal bar, then auto switch to 5G NSA full signal bar. 95% is crap one la, they ownself say 95% but real world maybe only 70%~80%, if 95% coverage then signal will be full bar, yet only 2 bar only. 🫠

Poor coverage is still coverage. The reality is, IMDA does not impose QoS requirements - to them "coverage" is enough. It doesn't matter if it's only 128kbps - if you can receive signal, it's covered.

That's unlike other countries where it seems that a certain level must be met before it is accepted.
