Update on the status , Amazon refunded 20% due to the defect.
Pretty straightforward, chat with CS over the app, sent them the picture. They acknowledge it and ask me whether to RMA. Told them prefer keep the phone then they offered the refund 20% to the gift card balance or credit card, no hassle.

Don't mind the odd sticker. Lol. I DIY cut a Pixel 2 Skin to paste on the Essential. But mine seems okay. haha. If not i wouldn't mind a 20% off too. haha.

Is the defect only obvious under bright sunlight? How about under normal florescent lights?

u referring to those hard plastic with black boarders?
those type tokong till dropped it wont cracked... but ur screen will.

It's tempered glass and I haven't had any issue with the one on my HTC 10. Gonna get the same when my essential phone arrives.

Anyone facing a problem where all the notification sounds do not work? I only receive ringtone sound when there is a call.

I have to restart the phone and everything works as normal. Even the WhatsApp tick sound after sending a message disappears.

Basically for all notification sounds.

This same thing happened on my Mi A2.
