Ethernet Issue (Pls Send Help)

Looking for any networking or connection savant.

I am broke as **** and have tried all the low costs fixes. (namely new ethernet cable, 2 pcie ethernet cards, 1 usb ethernet port)

Since i got this pc i have been some issue with ethernet connection on and off (sometimes will disconnect but will usually reconnect within seconds or minutes)

All along i thought it was something wrong with the port itself, once the usb ethernet port came i pretty much realized this issue is beyond my plebeian understanding.

Wifi for my house router works fine, laptops connecting to the router works even when the ethernet does its usual disconnecting ritual.

Am asking for any guesses on what's next for me to replace to get my lifeline sorted out. (also, i brought this to sls before and they said it was an issue with my windows key? its not possible right....unless...)

Are you connecting your ethernet cable directly to the router or the port in your room? Please give more details about your ethernet setup.

Have you tried:
1. Connecting the ethernet cable to a different port on the router (what router do you have?)
2. If you have a home ethernet, have you checked the connection from the router into the port that leads to your PC?

I have a few questions for you in order to be able to help you further.

1. Is your windows activated?
2. Are you connected via Ethernet directly to the internet router or are you extending the connection with a second router or a mix of WiFi extender(s)
2. This sounds like a malware issue so I would suggest to run a malware scan
3. What browser are you using? Chrome? If so try installing another browser and see if the connection becomes stable. There is a chance that a plugin is screwing your browser (assuming its chrome here)

If none of this helps then provide more details.

Abit of a potato at this but i will describe what i can in layman words.

My pc at the living room so connected directly to router, yeps i did try all the different ports. (My router is the default singtel one, one old black one and one the smaller white one. I think one is 2.4 one is 5g? Not too sure why we got 2 also lol.)

Regarding point 2, how to check ah? I did run through normal troubleshooting and the singtel website troubleshoot also, both cannot detect anything wrong.

1. Yeps (but err, the key from a robotman website)
2. Connected straight, also i did try both the black and white router looking things and both still disconnect so i dont think thats the variable.
2b. I do have the free avast antivirus activated. Unless there is another way to scan other than via anti virus?
3. Chrome but i dont think it matters as the whole ethernet will disconnect as if the wire not even plugged in, then suddenly show reconnecting. (spasm kinda behavior, sometimes dont have whole day, sometimes keep happening every few mins)

Why not just connect the ethernet cable to your laptop, it it doesn't have intermittent issue, we can rule out router issue. From there, if you don't mind, u can perhaps do a fresh install of windows on it, if it still persists, then your motherboard NIC card is probably spoiled.

OH LOL fckme ok i shall try that, also just asking for knowledge but NIC card can be replaced one right, how does it work. Isit Mobo->NIC->Ethernet Port so even if i change the ethernet port with external USB one it still doesnt fix the issue if its NIC explode?

I had the same problem. Intermittent ethernet disconnects when wifi is working fine.

Troubleshoot and ruled out router (ethernet on another PC is fine, tested with spare router, checked router hardware settings), NIC (my MB has two NICs - Intel and Killer E2500). This left cable.

Before replacing cable, checked Windows connection settings and drivers which were all fine.

Reinstalled Windows on a hunch and problem solved. Thanks, Microsoft.

last time my windows would cap my internet speed to 400+ Mbps for no reason

tot hardware failure so i go purchased a usb ethernet adaptor and its the same

reinstalled ??? all normal again ???

Yes if the laptop test proves to be stable then its a software issue. IF you have a spare HDD you can do a fresh install to test that.

Wa sounds like reinstall is the way to go.....will it wipe my disk clean or is there a way i can reinstall without the wipe?

The ethernet is stable on my lappy.....if im using USB Ethernet (bought it to replace the port recently to rule out port issue) means this rules out NIC issue liao right......

I did a clean install but you can try an installation w/o wipe.

shut down the PC as the earlier exit was not clean. Wait a few seconds and restart.

if problem persist, you can click on the ethernet icon to run the diagnostic

Probs gonna go in raw unless got other options

Assuming the windows setup which i downloaded from the website finishes checking for updates (its been 30mins), i just click the option to keep files and apps i should be on the right track?

Under Windows 10 - Settings - Update & Security - Backup - Go to Backup and Restore (Windows 7) - Create a System Image

I use this to backup my SSD to internal HDD. No need for external HDD.

What doesn't work? Router or your computer? Phone have WiFi?
