Exchange program got use?

Hi all, I am new here, just curious ah... if go exchange really got beef up your resume a not ah? Or it only matters if you go to ivy league uni... Not asking about experience of overseas education systems or something... Just curious on how private sector employers will feel if they see you have been to an exchange program compared to someone who hasnt.

Anyway i am from NTU. So what would be a good CGPA for those who been to overseas exchange program and the Universities are in the Top 100 or even Top 50 by QS ranking.

Currently studying Computer science.

i would say, a 4.3 (upon 5) might *just* be able to scrape through. of course, it depends on the competition in your cohort as well.

I've seen jobs where they explicitly ask for overseas experience (eg. BMW Group Management Associate Programme Job - Management Jobs in Singapore, Manufacturing - Non Electronics Jobs, BMW ASIA PTE LTD, Singapore Job Search - STJobs ), but usually companies are not so explicit about it.

If you want to work in an MNC next time, especially the really large fortune 500 kinds, then its definitely recommend to have. generally they don't really care if it is ivy-league or not. in fact, some employers are more impressed if you went to a non-english speaking country (shows that you are willing to step out of your comfort zone and that you can survive in different cultural environments).

CMU, UCB, UBC comes to mind. depends on the agreement between ur faculty/school and the overseas uni. also, note that good schools generally have good students. i had an experience whereby an overseas yr3 module can only be mapped back to local uni yr2 module, but the content is worthy of local uni yr5 module. i suffered alot back then

Yea. Of course got use. U can learn a lot of things from the exchanges and interactions with people of different backgrounds. Some more, this will help u to gain knowledge and insight and also experience.

of course must pass. i went to the US for exchange.

like i said, good unis definitely xiong one. u need to earn the (stellar) overseas transcript through hard work

I think NTU policy is that you have to pass the module over there. But damn hard to fail la, considering you are from sg. All my friends who went for exchange(a fair mix of good and not-so-good unis), all of them returned with at least a 3.5/4 gpa.

At the not-so-good unis many of them got 3.7-4.0 and a few even made it into the dean's list at the exchange uni.

Oh yeah. The cgpa is based on how many students from your sch wanna go over to study? Or based on how many students in ur uni competing for the slots?

yah, most NTU students who go on exchange end up realising how strict the grading system is in NTU. and this really penalises us when we are being compared with foreign graduates for work/grad school.
