btw, any1 aware that credit card offering better fx rate? i was saying so because...recently i did a free cancellation and was given full refund to my credit card.
My booking was made in TWD (NTD1,000) via PayPal. Upon my cancel request, the full NTD 1000 was refunded to me and was converted to SGD using FX rate ~22.16. I am using ANZ Optimum Card for the booking. I was rather surprised 'cos usually CC rate cant match the over counter rate.
Any1 experience similar or paid using CC? Care to share?

I will like to confirm that I can just walk to any DBS ATM machine in Taiwan to make a withdrawal using my SG issued ATM anytime. Can I also check where I can check the rate?

Are there admin fee if I change SGD to TWD from Megabank or Bank of Taiwan in the city and not the airport?

it's happened to my friend while transact in CC at tw recently, but i don't bother her too much as its could be her overlook and miscalculate somewhere until u mentioned here

There is no admin fees if you change in town.
Only airport.

Depends. If u have purchased NTD at rate say 21.5 when you sell NTD the money changer uses the buy rate of 22+ so still losing money here. Unless you have bought NTD at 23+ then yes you gain.

Now earlier rates are definitely better than last month's one.
So it is correct, you will get back more in SGD.

Let's presume your booking of NTD1,000 was done at rate 21.6. That means your were charged SGD46.30 to your credit card. When your requested for a refund, the credit card bank refunded NTD1,000 at a rate of 22.16. This works out to SGD45.13 being credited to your card.

So there is a loss of SGD1.17. You can't simply see the one rate and assuming the higher the better. You have to consider if it is a buy or sell rate. Here the rate of 22.16 is a sell NTD rate since you are getting back SGD. So the lower the better. Your amount is small (NTD1,000) so the loss is neligible. But it is a huge amount then the loss is significant.

Credir card banks never charge better rate than those money changers.
