I would like to invest in ETFs, and would like to seek advice on how I should go about it and suggest what ETFs I should go for.

My requirements for ETFs are as follow:
1) US/China play / MSCI Global Index
2) Would be better if it is traded in SGD (not denominated in USD)
3) AN ETF that tracks the actual index and not a synthetic ETF

Anyone has experience in this area can shortlist a few ETF for me to research on?

Better still, anyone who knows any good SCB broker to recommend?

Thanks!

G'day,

You've come to the right place. A few points:

  1. You can't have a physical (not synthetic) ETF that tracks China, because there's no way for the ETF to buy the physical stocks. It's synthetic or nothing.
  2. SCB doesn't have brokers - it's entirely self-directed. That's part of why it's so cheap.

So here we go:
  • US ETF: just go straight to the USA and buy the big daddy SPY. There's no good SGD-denominated equivalent.
  • China ETF: The most popular in this space seems to be JK8, the UETF SSE50; KT4, the DBXT CSI300 ETF, also seems to get some business, though it's listed in USD so it's not ideal for your case.
  • Global: Again, go to the USA; VT, the Vanguard World stock ETF, is pretty good in this space.

I'm thinking of using my SRS funds to buy the STI ETF just to get some yield. The other ETF listed on SGX look dismal.

IMO I would say to skip the china play - high GDP does not equate to high stock market gains.
