for CX Econ, its 30kg "for tickets initially issued on or after 15 September 2016" ... else it's 20kg

yup ... so those who have made their bookings before 15sep 2016 only 20kg :( even if the travel date is after 15 sep 2016 ...

That means DCC for sure.:D

OK, since it is < $200 booking, I will use Agoda then.

sometimes would use agoda, cox their only agoda have selected hotels.
such as bangkok berkeley pratunam ...
expedia , booking.com, hotels.com no have their hotel ...

Usually expedia have more free cancellations hotel ...

No doubt agoda price is slightly cheaper than expedia for some hotels ...

I called them up late last night for my own refund of DCC fees. Before lunch today, I had already received "refund receipt" emails from Expedia that it's been processed and would be credited to my card account within 15days.

So I wouldn't call them crappy. :D

In any case, agree with what solo_apple said about only asking for a refund on the DCC if it's a substantial amount so they don't discontinue it. Mine was substantial.

Just give them a call...Hope it works out for ya! :s12:

I just told the cso that they (Expedia) quoted on the payment page and itinerary that I would be charged e.g. SGD$100. However due to them processing their payments overseas, the bank has charged me a DCC fee of 0.8% across all my itineraries booked. Should not be the case since they quoted me in SGD, and I shouldn't have to pay extra. Initially cso said couldn't refund, but I asked nicely to speak to the manager.

Spoke to manager, explained again, and he promptly said he would refund the 0.8% for all my itineraries.

got this off from OCBC card fees & charges:

An additional fee will be levied on all Visa and MasterCard transactions effected in Singapore dollars and processed overseas (including online transactions). This includes but is not limited to (i) any Visa or MasterCard retail transaction presented in foreign currency that you choose to pay in Singapore dollars via dynamic currency conversion and (ii) any online retail card transaction charged to your Visa and MasterCard cards on overseas websites in Singapore Dollars. The additional fee charged is 1% on all converted Singapore dollar amounts for each Visa and MasterCard transactions respectively. With effect from 15 October 2016, the dynamic currency conversion (DCC) fee charged for Visa
Card transactions on all converted Singapore dollar amounts will be revised from 0.8% to 1%.

oh yeah. one more thing..the manager said he'd refund 0.8% for all my itineraries. but the next day noticed they missed the dcc refund for a flight. Called and hotels division advised that I'd need to speak to the flights division about it since they can't trigger it from their end.

The cso transferred my call over to the flights division and I just briefly mentioned that the hotels manager agreed to the refund and the cso promptly agreed to it as well.

so remember to ask to speak to both teams if you got hotels+flights...

i suspect there are cases where these fees are just slapped on indiscriminately. banks r not doing anything about it & simply passing the cost onto consumers !

there is no way consumers know for sure payments are actually processed overseas.
what does "processed overseas" really means, nowadays with internet & globalisation ? - set up a overseas address with some servers, route these payments there ? :(

Not too clear myself on the fees....but from the looks of it, the banks are the ones charging. Not the merchants.

that is usually the case if you book hotels using any of the EXPEDIA group including hotels.com. Banks/CC will impose a DCC fees. It gets even frustrated if you do a FREE CANCELLATION and the OTA only full refund you the deducted amt but not the DCC.
FYI, Agoda and Airbnb, both using local payment clearance center, so you don kena DCC :)

from my bank statement, have booked and cancelled my bookings from expedia . there is ccy revenue ... meaning to say they have refunded me the ccy conversion amt ... though the amt is slightly different from the initial ccy amt ...

expedia hotels mostly free cancellations and usually slightly cheaper than agoda ... hence would usually use expedia to book
furthermore, would do bpg usually ... only expedia have not bad bpg
refund 2x the price diff if u managed to find same hotel at lower price ...

Does anyone notice that whatever Expedia refund the amount back to us, the amt in the cc statement is always less than the amt requested? Is this a norm?

Usually, it is not Expedia's fault.

It is always the bank.

Whatever Expedia charges you, if refund triggers, they will refund you that amount. However, sometimes, this amount includes FX and/or DCC, so you are not always getting what you have paid. These small $$ will be digested by the banks (insuring or acquiring bank).

Ooh ic. So in order to get the correct refund, do we call the bank or Expedia again? Or u all ignore the small amount?

For example, for my bpg they shld refund me $10.24. But in my statement, it only show 10.16.
