IMHO.
No reason why not.
An alternative would be to get a dual-bay external hard drive docking station. You can purchase off the shelf 3.5" or 2.5" to work with it.

Most people aren't aware of this but during the CMR-SMR transition Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drives were SMR whilst Seagate Expansion Drives are CMR. There's a huge difference in their use case.

Nowadays with Seagate transitioning to all SMR drives both the expansion and backup plus portable use SMR drives. Pretty sh1t to be honest but Seagate doesn't seem to be introducing the CMR drives back anytime. In any event, if your use case is archiving performance is not an issue so an SMR drive will do fine for you.

Now the difference between the two is mostly their bundled add ons, even though both are covered with a 3 year warranty.

With a Backup Plus Portable you get a 1 year mylio subscription for cloud backups for photos, and a 3 month Adobe CC Photography Plan.

With the Seagate Expansion you get a 2-year Seagate Rescue Service. Meaning if the drive fails you get a one-time complimentary data rescue service to rescue the data on that purchased drive at no additional cost to you.

What drive size are you looking at?

Drive prices are really sky high right now for Seagate so if its not urgent I suggest you wait a while for the prices to fall. Unless you want to buy from carousell scalpers, a practice which I don't condone at all - You get less warranty or a reduced deadline to utilise the add-ons bundled with it, because the warranty is based off the time the drive rolls off the assembly, not when it is sold to you. Those drives on carousell may have been bought a long time ago for all you know.
