Extending Opennet Fibre point

Hi,

My house has been installed with the Fibre termination point by Opennet.

I have just signed up for the fibre plan and i was thinking to place my gateway at a distance away. Can I just get any fibre cable to extend it to the gateway? or how does one should be go about doing it?

Would rather that you place the ONT(Optical Network Terminal) which is needed and would be connected inbetween your TP and Router near where the TP is and run a lan cable from the ONT to your gateway..

Fibre optic cable isnt that cheap, lan cable is alot cheaper..

Your connection would be as such,

TP--Fibre Optic Cable-->ONT--Cat 5/5e/6-->RG

The ONT will be installed on the appt date..

Right now, what you have installed is only your TP isnt it?

I dont think you have the ONT yet..The ONT and RG will most likely come together probably during your appt date..

I guess depends on the telco which u sign up with..

M1 will pass the RG to the customer during sign up, the installation appt is just to get the Nucleus Connect guys to go over with the ONT, fix it up to the TP and perform a line test..Afterwhich the rest would be done DIY.

Nt that sure about Singnet/Starhub but likely the RG would be coming along with the ONT during the appt date.Might be the telco's technical staff instead thou..

Huawei HG256 provided by M1($2 rental monthly) and Starhub while Singnet uses the 2Wire 5012NV..

They wont pull a fibre cable for you since the one given FOC is only 2m..Not sure if they will pull lan cable for you but if they dont, you can just pull lan cable urself..

Parents room: TP>ONT>Lan cable to your room>RG/Router..

Or you wana place everything in ur parents room and just pull a lan cable direct to ur rig?

Singtel does provide free installation svc of laying trunking from 2Wire 5012NV to your first PC.Other ISP do not provide.Give Singnet a call to enquire.

Why not keep the TP,ONT,Router at ur parents room then run lan cable trunking from their room to ur room and ur sister's...

Cost wise definitely lower than shifting TP and then run cabling again..

They just run free cabling and trunking from your router to ur 1st PC...Not fibre optic cable to shift the TP also..

yea i know this. Problem is that i prefer cat 6 cables rather than the 5e cables they are providing. hmm i also checked out that i need to pay 200 plus just to relocate the Opennet port to the location i want.

If u need cat 6, then u gonna get ur own before they come..

question: difference between cat5e and cat6?

to elgin00: also note that Opennet needs to isntall port for all other areas in singapore before they will entertain 'relocation' requests. I enquired today and they told me relocation is not free and earliest u can relocate is end sept.

There is no difference between the 2 standard cables in actual use!

I just install my tp at the living room cos there isn't a direct way to trunk all the way to my pc in the second room. Any advise.on how I can still get wired.connection from tp to my pc?
