external hard disk wire

I am using a seagate free agent goflex 500gb ext hard disk. The usb wire they gave spoiled so i bought another one. when i connected the new wire the ext hard disk indicator lit up but it could not be detected . is it because the new wire is thin? the wire that came with it was much thicker.

TS, how you access the usb cable is spoiled?
Maybe your usb port not giving enough power to the drive?

Hello, if you buy the cheap cable of course it's can't connected... You should buy the good quality 1.
