Hi guys!

I'm looking for an external hard drive (2 TB) to back up my stuff, seems like Seagate and Western Digital are recommended based on online reviews but I've also found some reviews which says theirs died in few weeks/months which is terrifying.

Is WD MY BOOK ESSENTIAL a good choice or are there better alternatives?

Thank you!

I think when it comes to HDDs, unless there's a bad batch, really is heng suay. Almost every brand you can find some reviews which describe DOA or short lifespan. I have three external Seagate HDDs (between 2-4 years), all doing fine. Which I consider quite heng cos two were bought from Amazon :D

Buy a usb 3.0 docking station and separate regular hdds to plug in. I find the hdds run cooler this way.

I agree that Seagate and WD are both good brands and prices are reasonable la. I am using Seagate back up plus slim for my laptop leh for 3 years now and it is still ok lo.

When buying external hard drive.., you must consider if it is laptop class or desktop class leh... Desktop class HDDs are meant to stay in just one place lo, so if you use it for laptops, maybe that is when it spoils bo...

Thank you. Where may I purchase them locally? Sim Lim?

Look like very niche products, may be hard to find in SLS. You can always walk around and try though.

Looks like Datalocker doesn't have a distributor in SG, served by same company in Malaysia.

Just check their websites for distributor/reseller info:
