Wanted to find out more about 2.5 external HDD and NAS.

As I scroll through Shopee, i noticed that Toshiba 4tB is around 50 sgd? Since i did not buy external HDD for such a long time, the price drop that much? Want to get a spare one for time machine for mac (eversince i found out ants start to make a nest in my current external HDD...)

Also I feel like getting a NAS for home usage, any NAS users have something to recommend? 2 to 4 bay will do and what the price range?

Please don't.

Toshiba external 4TB ain't that cheap and i have brought a few directly from toshiba but never at that price

Toshiba N300 (Internal 3.5") is the NAS version (like ironwolf or wd red) and that goes for ~200 at those sim lim stores and ~220 at toshiba shopee mall.

If it seem wierd, smells wierd, walk wierd, feels wierd, then just avoid it. And also please read through this, https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...wolf-pro-and-exos-drives-sold-as-new.7108488/
as i have also personally saw his review on that item listing which has been taking down.

Usage? simple backup or SMB share? or you require to virtualize?
Asustor and synologgy are the common brands.

Synology
DS423+ (4 bay) ~ SGD 780
DS224+ (2 bay) ~SGD500

Asustor
AS1102TL (2bay) ~SGD 300
AS3304T (4 bay) ~ SGD 560
AS5304T (4 bay) ~SGD600

Better to ask here bah if you going synology - https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/nas-synology-nas-owner-club-part-2.6464095/

Nas is insanely expensive. If TS isn't even serious or understand what are the benefits of nas. Suggest to just get a external HDD.

And please, for the umpteenth times, those $50 4TB drives are obviously fake. Don't do like one of our fellow member. He said he just buy one to test highly suspecting it's fake and even started a thread here. And he never gotten back to here.

I have been using NAS with RAID for 15 years and upgrading them periodically. Recently I bought new laptops for the office and the new laptops cannot access the old NAS, which are still working well. So for some personal stuff, I have switched to SSD drives.
