External HDD problems

Hi, hoping someone can help me here.

I'm using a 2TB WD Elements as a media storage, plug in via USB direct to my smartTV. Lately the playback has gotten very laggy and unwatchable. I tried to move the files to my PC but the speed would go down to 1~2MB/sec after 60%.

Does anyone know a solution to this? I'm using all USB 3.0 & Win8.1

Are there better ways to watch media on my SmartTV?

Hi, I suggest you run WD Data Lifeguard diagnostics to check your HDD. Sounds like a case of too many bad sectors.

I did get a new usb3.0 cable to test but it was the same
