Sorry for this nerd question. I have a mini PC that does not come with any sound card. So my question is can I just get an external sound card as a workaround, like I read on Internet, or I have mis-understood the product?

you can get usb soundcard.

if you want best sound, just for playback only, get usb DAC

cheapest way is usb audio dongle, less than $5

how mini is your mini-pc? Are you referring to the audio jack not working? Simplest workaround should be USB sound adapter like creative sound blaster or cheaper ones from ugreen. It should work as long as you have an available USB 2.0/3.0 port

i just use apple type c to 3.5mm adapter

if pc no type c just buy adapter

sound quality wins most at this price point

What kind of mini pc? Most consumer mb come with integrated sound.
Having a sound card to have basic audio is 20 years ago technology.

Mini PC usually HDMI output/s... mine have dual HDMI outputs that can hookup to dual monitors /w sound.

Alternative is consider getting a BT speaker.
Example Logitech Z337 BT just connect to BT no need wire.

get a usb dac and a portable one at that.
you can use it for your mini pc, or for anything else, even your laptop or mobile phone
