Hi,
My 14yrs old MBP finally died on me. Changed the battery but it is not charging at all. Anyway time to give up,
Is there a way I can extract the data from the HDD without purchasing any software to do so with a Windows laptop?

TIA

Got an apps to read HFS+ formatted drive with a window laptop.

now question is, is it enough to backup just the USER folder before I reformat this drive?
Not familiar with mac file system.... which other folder should I backup that might contain documents/downloaded email from outlook/photos/itunes music and mobile backup that I need to take note of beside this USER folder?

TIA again

Just back up everything in case. Most of your data should be in the user folder, but you might have apps that could write elsewhere.

You can very likely skip /Applications.
