It's a mental problem. They feel empty in their life, so they fill up their house with useless stuff.

They should treat it as a mental illness, and focus on the patient.

Just clearing the trash once or twice will not work, because the person will simply go back to hoarding trash.

I think it will not end there. The new or next generation will slowly degenerate into such... I think it's a mental issues that's not limited to any particular generation only... Some of the young and affluent edmwers today may develop such symptoms when they grow old and if they continue to be alone... Higher chance to have such symptoms.
