It's a mental problem. They feel empty in their life, so they fill up their house with useless stuff.

They should treat it as a mental illness, and focus on the patient.

Just clearing the trash once or twice will not work, because the person will simply go back to hoarding trash.

Its a core genetic issue. Hard to change one's brain chemistry. Like people with higher sexual drive.

The root cause is the hoarder still breathing. No amount of counselling will help. Hard truth. Slowly wait for the nature to resolve the problem.

I think it will not end there. The new or next generation will slowly degenerate into such... I think it's a mental issues that's not limited to any particular generation only... Some of the young and affluent edmwers today may develop such symptoms when they grow old and if they continue to be alone... Higher chance to have such symptoms.🙏

Rich people tend to hoard open spaces - big gardens, minimalist lifestyle.
Poor people tend to hoard stuff, especially stuff that they can keep in plastic bags and plastic containers.

I see a home with a lot of plastic bags lying around, I immediately know that person is super low SES.

But if i clear my room, means lesser things to use. I only become poorer? 🤣

Rich ppl have money and friends. Poor ppl have no money no friends. So they resort to collecting things to fulfill the emptiness in them.
