extremely slow loading time of desktop

defrag hdd already. but still very slow. this happens after i didnt on my pc for 2 weeks (went overseas).

confirm is HDD problem? can it be cpu or ram?

May be you wanna check if there is anything running the background that is causing the slow down? Only thing I can think of is some Windows update taking place that is causing the slow startup, since you have not used it for 2 weeks. Never experience a slow down in my computer after not using it for prolong period of time though.

Could be hard disk dying if restart also that slow.
Run HDTune error scan (uncheck quick scan).

If you are using Windows 7, click start, then type on the search field, "msconfig". Then go to startup. You can see what programs are loading when Windows is starting up. Disable third party programs that you don't really need. Sometimes programs like Java, Adobe, or Anti-Virus may update and install in the background causing your whole system to slow down. It might also be your Anti-Virus scanning your HD in the background.

In that case, there is a chance that the hard drive is failing. I had a drive that exhibited this prob too. Everything is very sluggish when I installed my OS on it. So I replaced it with a spare and the com is fine.
