Face ID/password to install apps

Apparently no. What I am most peeved about is we still have to press the button twice to proceed to recognise face.

Right. Did you experience sometimes didn’t ask to double click/face ID? It skipped this step and asked me for password only.

Nope. To be frank I will rather click twice then key in the pw.

I don’t think you can totally avoid faceid or password even for free apps if it’s for the first download

Believe all downloads from App store requires keying in of password/face ID.
IIRC due to incidents where the child rakes up high in app purchases, thus, Apple had this new flow in place to prevent such incidents from reoccuring.

i think TS is referring to free apps where there's no such concern though?

Yeah, free apps also need Apple ID, no?

i mean my point is, if the app is free, the child issue doesn't matter.

What I am trying to say is, previously there was no such requirements for free apps.
Only because of such incidents then did Apple "fortify" the download flow.

which is a little counter intuitive right.

If the issue is with those apps that child will go anyhow press and incur huge expenses.

I guess that's how Apple's ecosystem is.
IIRC there's a setting that can be changed though, to require only after i.e. 15/30mins before requiring to enter credentials again.

ya. i mean whether that makes sense or not is the debate here.

there is but doesn't seem to work. I think last time pre touch/faceid era it does.now maybe because it is so easy to unclock. so this setting might be outdated but not yet removed

But anyways, apparently it can be disabled according to Apple's offical support page.

If you don't want to enter a password when you download free items, follow the steps below and turn off password protection for free items.

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Media & Purchases.
4. Tap Password Settings, then choose the setting you want.

If you can't see Password Settings, you've turned on Face ID or Touch ID for App Store and iTunes Purchases. To change this, go back to Settings, tap "Face ID & Passcode" or "Touch ID & Passcode", then turn off Face ID or Touch ID next to "iTunes & App Store".

This option is greyed out on my device though.
