Face ID/password to install apps

I guess that's how Apple's ecosystem is.
IIRC there's a setting that can be changed though, to require only after i.e. 15/30mins before requiring to enter credentials again.

This doesn’t work. I tried. But still prompt me every single install.

But anyways, apparently it can be disabled according to Apple's offical support page.

If you don't want to enter a password when you download free items, follow the steps below and turn off password protection for free items.
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Media & Purchases.
4. Tap Password Settings, then choose the setting you want.

If you can't see Password Settings, you've turned on Face ID or Touch ID for App Store and iTunes Purchases. To change this, go back to Settings, tap "Face ID & Passcode" or "Touch ID & Passcode", then turn off Face ID or Touch ID next to "iTunes & App Store".

This option is greyed out on my device though.

Yup, can only turn off Face ID and when I did it will ask me for pw every time I want to install a free app. Even more frustrating

RIght, guess your next best option is to seek Apple support directly to clarify.
Otherwise, it seems to me like its a requirements for App Store usage.
