Hi,

I recently had my Hitachi HDD 1TB failing suddenly. Boot up showed S.M.A.R.T status bad backup and replace error.

I tried to extract the data out by transferring to another drive but reading MOST of the files seems failing or take forever.

Is there a better way or no way? I hope there is.....

well since im not sure of that but if this is so i got a feeling that u might have above 50% hdd error though...or might be more...since u cant run much data out.

Well there is no other way, but u have to copy 1 folder or files 1 by one to sniff out which are the corrupted files/folders/

This is corrupted data or HDD failing?

SMART failure most common fault is due to numerous bad sectors.
This could be due to platters getting degraded or the heads simply not functioning.

The data should not be corrupted and still possible to recover most of them as long as the platters does not end up with more bad sectors or scratches.
