Is there such thing like fake ram?

wanted to buy Ram DDR3 ram but the price for 1x4GB is around $30

1) prices for DDR3 ram drop that much?

2) is there anyways to check if the ram that i bought is real/fake?

TIA

You can use Thaiphoon Burner to check the information of the RAM, like this:

Yes. there could be fakes.

To be honest, if it is for an old system, I will just buy from reputable server parts resellers who stripped from decommissioned servers/workstation. It would be dirt cheap.

What about memtest86?

I heard people talk about this software.

Memtest is a stress test, you wanted to check the RAM info only right? Anyway why don't you go download it and try? You can use it on any system, including your current one.

And yes, want to look for secondhand parts on Taobao just find those that are "拆机" one.

last year i bought 2 4gb crucial sticks of used ddr3 1600mhz for $30. so yes, ddr3 is pretty cheap nowadays.
Taobao my choice.
generally i would say buying from taobao is safe, but my original stick of some random chinese brand 8gb ddr3 failed on me after only 1 year of use, which caused me to buy the crucial ram i mentioned above.

Yes, I only get crucial, samsung, SK Hynix amd Kingston from them too, instead of random Chinese brands.

$30 for 4GB is not cheap. I sold 16GB of top-notch DDR3-2400 for about $100 a while back though prices have since rebounded.
