Plan 2 is better. Hakone no need to drive imo, Kawaguchiko if you are confident, driving should save quite some time moving around but i will still go with public transport.

Have you driven in winter? Days 7 & 8 could be done via public transport as what Delardino mentioned.

There might still be some illumination events till end February or better still if your trip includes V-Day.

From your base in Tokyo, if you wish to travel further you could consider buying the Tokyo Wide Pass (3 consecutive days) and include another 2 side trips if you wish (eg Nikko, Yuzawa for skiing, Fuji Five Lakes as you had planned). No pre purchase required - just buy and activate when ready.

Looks fine, i would move 1 of Asakusa or Akihabara to Day 5 though since that day is rather empty.

Day 3 and 6 a bit too ambitious. Need to pick and choose properly if you want to take it nice and slow.

Your changed plan is definitely better

Day 3: A bit ambitious

Day 5: You can complete the day within just hours, so you still have half day to fit in other stuffs. If you do not mind taking taxi, I suggest Yanesen (taxi ride under 20 minutes) after. I enjoyed it very much.

Thanks all!

Thanks all! I will move Asasuka to Day 5. Any pass that I can use here? try to read up but a bit confusing like the pass does not apply much to the places I am going. Feel the more appropriate pass to get is the Tokyo Wide pass since I am going Gala Yuwaza. Not too comfortable taking taxi - afraid will be very expensive. haha

is only around 1 hr plus to experience snow. the place seems nice! I am thinking to get the tokyo wide pass and activate it on the first day to take the narita express, 2nd day to explore gala yuwaza and 3rd day to explore tokyo.

Late spring (March to May) and late autumn (September to November) are generally the best times to visit Japan, when there is little rainfall, skies are clear, and temperatures are mild. What's more, the delicate cherry blossom of spring and vivid hues of autumn leaves are visually stunning.

Plus - Bro, the average temperature in February is around 6°C (48.2°F). You can usually expect warmer hours during the day. The Tokyo area has temperatures that go from around 11°C (51.8°F) to -1°C (30.2°F).
