Hi,

Money cannot buy happiness. So what if someone is really rich? Is he truly happy? Life is too short to keep worrying so much about money. Money is important, but what is more important is your health, your family, friends, loved ones and also care for other people. These are the things which do not cost money, but yet yield the most happiness in life. How you look at your life is also very impt. Always try to be positive.

Even now i earn more than 100k, im not happy. My expenses increase by spending more on restaurants, gadgets, car etc. Unfortunately spending on materialistic things can only provide short term happiness. At the end of the day, you will feel unhappy.

I read a quote before. It does not matter how much you earn, it's how much you save.

Must always have a good attitude and dont give up on your dreams but also be realistic.

TS, u can also consider switching to a job with more free time while exploring biz to do. Or take no pay leave for a while.

I am late 30s. Did the above for 2yrs before. Helps with the mid-life crisis. Im still doing 2 side projects with partners. Maybe one will blossom into a profitable biz. Im taking it easy and enjoying the nurturing process for the moment.

You sound very enlightened already, i am much younger than you and don't have much advice to offer. I truly agree that money cannot buy happiness.
You draw a good salary, can you endure a bit longer in this job, spend less on the material things. save up more and spend more time with ur loved
ones? quickly build a good base, become debt free and then work on something you like, after you hatched a well thought out plan to switch job while making sure your loved ones are covered

Hi TS, I started working only for about 2 years plus but I can empathise with you and also agree with many of the replies.

Sad to say, this is how our society and the corporate world is structured. When gains and interests are at stake, we surely have to deal with politics, competition, the dark side of humans etc.

Personally, I felt that there was little meaning in fighting so hard and so long to reach the top of the corporate ladder (that is if you reach there). The amount of stress and pressure from the responsibilities might not be truly worthwhile. That is why certain people that I know choose not to be promoted and stay in middle management.

But at the end of the day, we all still need money to survive. So I think it is always good to have a plan B as backup so that you have more flexibility to make decisions - whether to quit or to stay and take one step at a time.

Hi TS, you are not alone in this. Many of us in fact are at this stage in our life. I'm one of them. Below are some of my personal recommendations.
1. Try to look at other expects in life, like volunteer work, take up a hobby that makes you happy. Try volunteer work with kids first, since you like kids.

2. Try to leave your office on time, and if possible have some alone time.

3. If possible, after work do not check your office email. It helps.

4. Talk to others in your industry, and try to find support roles that has lesser problems. In some companies, support roles are the 'King' in the company. These support are sometimes more difficult to deal with, as compared to customers. So if you can, join the group.

5. Exercise more, eat healthy. It helps getting rid of some 'sian' thoughts.

6. Getting out and doing something different different may not be a good idea, considering your commitment now. Do something different in the same industry, so that you can still keep and expand your domain knowledge.

Why the working world is soo ugly? Everyone is stabbing on each other.. my boss is always tracking us.

I leave office on time but is warned by my boss.. not todo so because it is part of company culture to stay longer despite work has completed.

I think i am not the only one who face this scenario. Can others share how you feel about this issue? I am drawing quite a comfortable salary but i thought of getting out of finance and doing something different (early childhood or smth to do with kids).

But of course this may cause a drop in income unless you start your own biz. ANyone can share their experiences or thoughts around this?

Your young age works in your favor. If you are not saddled with any debts or commitment now is the right time to try out.
Gets much harder to switch once you have other commitments.
You must have the right drive for your passion too, and never give up!

Just a simple advise..

With your high annual income.. try to generate enough cash to generate residual income.

Once your residual income is double your expense, you can quite your job and do whatever you like

have a plan and you will reach it..!

oil and gas related suppliers are not as profitable as what others think...the end users are the real cash cows.

There was a yahoo news about "happiness" among singaporean and hell lots of them were unhappy about something here. Hahaha

Anyway life too short to be unhappy, although money is important in some points of view, my personal thinking is as long as when you wake up and there's food for you to eat, you don't go hungry, that's already consider a blessing compared to those african nations.

So go out and enjoy what you're doing as long as your stomach is filled
