Final Upgrade: MSI B550M Mortar. Thoughts?

So I’ve upgraded my CPU, SSD
Added CPU Cooler and 16GB memory.

i figured if i sell my old 3600, MB and a old 750w psu, i can upgrade my MB.

Researching online. Read that MSI B550M Mortar is one of the more recommended ones. What you guys think? Wanna avoid Asrock because Polychrome sux.

Budget at around $200 max.

local distro jack up the price of msi b550 so much that local set mortar costs basically $300. if willing to sacrifice local warranty, carou have some sellers with export set for about 180, which is about what a used 3600 fetches nowadays, so u can keep ur mobo and psu as backup. otherwise, the msi b550m pro vdh wifi and bazooka are pretty solid choices nearer the $200 mark, though any b550 board should be able to comfortably handle the 5600x, so just pick and choose what features u want for ur budget.

personally, I'd get the mortar from taobao, including shipping it's around 120 (wifi model that I recommend for not much more), which is quite a steal considering its form factor, excellent vrm performance and feature set. it is quite a solid board without going too deep into premium b550 boards, which start to not make sense given that x570 exists. u can also consider the asus tuf b550m plus which should be quite comparable, though I haven't checked local pricing for that one yet even in price.

I read and learnt that B550M Mortar does not support XPG Spectrix D41 4x8GB.

DDR4 memory all are the same. It will fit in that B550 Mortar memory slot and run. It's just that MSI never test this pair of memory on that mobo.

Not sure why you are opening so many thread from CPU cooler than RAM than this.
Might as well as save up than upgrade the PC properly than changing this than that.
If the PC current works than just leave it as it.

Changing mobo doesn't have any significant improvements only support for future CPU.
For motherboard recommend it does spoil down the road so buy locally.
Cheapest motherboard under $200 will be Gigabyte Aorus B550M Elite arond $199.

That MSI motherboard locally cost around $300 and it is way off your budget.

Yea individual thread for each part can generate individual discussion particular to the part.
In future, for others, they can also search through and find these individual discussion that they can find useful.

Like for example, i think we generated quite a good discussion and alot of good and valid points for the CPU cooler thread.

It's B550M. End of life soon. His 5600X will be the last cpu on this board.

What is your reason for upgrading the mobo?

It's already weird enough to upgrade from 3600 to 5600

Actually u guys are right.
There's no point in upgrading the MB as of now. Since what I need, B450M Steel Legend is already providing.

The initial driving force in me wanting to switch away from ASROCK is because their POLYCHROME (ASROCK's software to control the ARGB) sux. But i guess i can either live with it or just find a cheaper option such as getting a quality 3rd party ARGB controller hub that have software for windows as well.

Which is why I don't use and don't like all the fancy lights.
I still stick with traditional fans and not to mention I am using CM690 series case.
Put RGB looks very weird.
