For guys who own the AK100, you may be interested to know that AK will be collaborating with Suyama of FItEar fame, to produce a earphone specially tuned for the AK100 - the AK100 Original Tune Earphone (AK100-111is), a universal model.

iRiver announced that the AK100 will be supporting ALAC/AAC/AIFF of up to 24/192 resolution in the next firmware update. That will put it on the same level field with DX100 in terms of supported formats. Great to see that iRiver is enhancing the AK100 just like iBasso does with DX100, hope they will keep it up :)

For perspective, The New iRiver AK100: A High-End DAP

Looking at that graph, the AK100 will probably sound very musical, in the same vein that the HM801 was described as musical.

Also, Headfonia review: The Player: Astell & Kern AK100 | Headfonia
One of the comments says that Red Wine Audio figured out a mod to lower output impedance.

For people who already bought the player, that is another 300 USD to get better SQ out of it, which I think is absurd. Even a new RWAK100 will cost 895 USD. That is even more expensive than DX100.

Might as well buy dx100.

agree, if u want more power, and a big piece of brick :)

the buy point of this AK100 is the form factor, 160gb max storage

if price was $900+.. I probably wouldn't buy it too.. It was $780 during a show launch... so I just hooted

every product has it own merits
