Fire insurance coverage

I have an Enhance Home Insurance from income for my HDB flat.

Someone mentioned to me that such insurance does not cover damage to neighbour's flats. In the event of fire and if fire is big, risk of damage to neighbour's flat is very high, and neighbour will likely claim for damages to his flat from us.

I checked the policy, and it does not mention such coverage for neighbour's property.

Is it true that the policy does not cover neghbour's property and we will have to pay for the damage to negihbour's property ourselves?

To cover neighbour's properties or injuries, your need Public Liability extension or coverage or policy.


Again, not all third party's legal liabilities are covered (unlike car motor insurance which cover a very wide scope of third party liabilities) in Property's public liability coverage. For example, some only cover accident happened in the insured property (such as, friend or visitor was injured due to your negligence IN your property and NOT outside the property).


Hence, morale of the story, read the coverage carefully.

Of course, plenty in the market. Etiqa, Aviva etc all offer home insurance that cover the contents, renovation, alternative accommodation etc.

with the rise of fires in HDB flats from PMD charging. may i know how am i covered / protected if the flat directly above me causes the fire? i only have the most basic fire insurance coverage.
