:s12:

Im building my first PC ever (im 23) to fulfill my childhood dream :D Don't really have a fixed budget but I would say around SGD1500-2000 would be good (lower than that of course better). PC is mainly used for gaming and adobe creative (photoshop, premiere) but just a hobby ah :o

My preference would be Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU (just personal only, of course ATI, AMD work for others). Not planning to overclock, SLI upgrade atm but would like to prepare for it in the future should needs arise :s13:

CPU + mobo: i5 4690K, asus z97 A - $575 (bundle)
GPU + PSU: MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G, Antec HCG-720 $114 - $674 (bundle)
SSD + HDD: Samsung 840 EVO 250gb + WD blue 1TB, 32mb, 7200rpm - $246 (bundle)
Case: Corsair carbide SPEC-01 - $75
Case fans: Corsair AF120 silent twin pack - $37
RAM: G.Skill 1866 8GB - $118
Monitor: AOC IPS 27 inch i275FH - $395

Prices are taken from mynextcom as that's the only place I know :(

My questions are:
1. Is there any compatibility issue between these pieces?
2. Can I lower the cost for mobo choice any further? considering I want smth with SLI support, Broadwell-prepared and overclock capability.
3. Is my choice for monitor good? Im really fixed on getting a 27 inch monitor and this AOC has unnecessary speakers.
4. Should I order everything from mynextcom or are there better places?

Thank you for your feedbacks! :)

Why choose a K cpu and Z mobo when you are not going to overclock. A i5 4460 and a B85 mobo will be suffice since you are not going to do photoshop, etc intensely. (saving ~$150)

Antec HCG-720 PSU is way too much for your current build. A good 500W like FSP Aurum S 500W is just nice but not enough for SLI. (saving ~ $30)

The performance gain from SLI differ from each game but still not worth the money per performance ratio.

Get value ram ddr3 1600mhz instead of the ram selected. Almost no difference in performance. (saving ~$20)

What kind of stuff are you doing with premiere pro cc? I am using it as well haha. You are playing with videos of what resolution, play time and bitrate?

Words in bold does not tally well.

You will need to research more on what are the chipset available and what they offers you.

Read more on H81, B85, H87, H97, Z87, Z97 on what they have to offer.

Take note that it does not mean that buying a H81 means it is a lousy motherboard. It just cut down on features that the board has to offer.

Most people will fall into the category of H81, B85 and H87/97 categories if they are not going to do anything but just pure gaming on a 1080p monitor setup. H87 and 97 for people whom wanna do RAID setup for more HDD connections.

*Note although H81, B85 and H87/97 do support overclocking, you have certain things disabled such as RAM overclocking/locked at 1600mhz only and the list goes on.

Z87 & Z97 differs from the rest of the groups. It offers stuffs such as overclocking capabilities and features that H81, B85 and H87/97 that does not have. Apart from that, lower end Z87/97 offers only Crossfire for AMD GPUs at only x8/x4 PCIE config. Higher tier Z87/Z97 will support both Crossfire and SLI at x8/x8 PCIE config.

Be ready if you wanna overclock, please purchase a cooler together with it. Overclocking of CPU will generate some amount of heat.

As for SLI config, ONLY GO for SLI if you are intending to game at higher gaming resolutions. Such as 1440p monitor and 4k monitor resolutions.

Else you only need to go for a single gpu.

The size of the monitors big does not mean good. 1080p on 27inch will be too big and pixels packed together arent that good. It isnt any sharper. A general guideline for people whom wanna use 1080p monitor would result in going for 23-24inch. Where it is sharper. As for 27inch 1080p, IF it is going to be used as a small Home theatre PC to watch movies at a distance, then probably it is good to go for 1080p on 27inch.

27inch and above, usually people will buy a 1440p monitor or a 4k monitor.

So all this have to ask yourself first on what you really want and what type of games you really wanna play.
