i wonder what kind of recommendation is that lol...

how about kenting ? thought of going there

1st timer to Taipei and 7 days, just stick in Taipei..Enough activities and places for you to fully occupy the whole trip.

Kenting is far so no point going.

Dont see the need for a driver unless u have elderly with you.. Public transport can bring u to most places.

Have you book your hotels?? If no then i say better book if not is good luck..Most popular hotels already fully booked.

I took a one day tour and went yeliu, jinguashi, jiufen, shifen and to mengjia ye shi, you could contact this cabbie - Mr Huang @ +886936834879, he got whatsapps.

As for hot spring, I went xin beitou after that I went up to danshui, cause its on the way, it take me almost 3/4 of the day already...

The locals go to yangmingshan for hotspring, but u need cab or private transport.

Maybe u tell us who u are going with first. Normally 7 days is 5 full days and 2 half days.

Day 1 go ximending, wan hua night market.

Day 2 go jiufen, shifen route, come back Keelung or raohe night market

Day 3 go ye liu, then Keelung night market or raohe night market

Day 4 go beitou for hotspring, afternoon dansui then evening shilin night market

Day 5 go gu gong and some museums, buy the local sun cake from weige cake shop

Day 6 prepare to fly off

I have been to the above places except yeliu. Frankly speaking it really depends on who is going with you and what you like. If purely scenery you can try the following

Day 1 /2 go hualien

Day 3/4 go green island or lanyu island

Day 5 / 6 Taitung or kaoshiung

The east coast has scenery, southern part of taiwan like Tainan and kaoshiung the food is more Hakka and heavier taste compared to Taipei.

All the best

It will be an hour to Taipei central area of from ur hotel. Staying 2-3 stations from Taipei main station is more ideal, where you can go to Sogo, 101, museum, Ximending, dansui all within an hour. For jiufen and ye liu it will be 1.5 hours. I am not sure if you wan to have hotspring the whole day or even everyday. Private bathtub style hotspring is about ntd800 per person at xinbeitou.

Can la, if he ain't flying into taipei, but kaohsiung instead. Then can go kenting or even 小琉球。 That should be better place for him.

kimzzil, looks like you dun even bother to look up Taiwan map and understand the different places/cities.

If you're not confident or lazy, then I suggest you take up a tour package instead. See where/what you enjoy and make a 2nd trip again.

Yup yup. I had been to taipei almost once a year. Tho there is a lot of beautiful places outside taipei. But first timer to taipei. Best is to stick in taipei. Too much think for you to explore in taipei itself. Shi Lin ; rao he ; xmd ; shida ; enough to cover 4 to 5 night of your stay. Wu fen pu is big enough to cover 2 night. Day time wise, there is a lot of place to visit like eg. Museums ; underground shopping ; dan shui ; big shopping mall along Zhong xiao district.

If u wan cab spent 1 day to go yeliu ; Jin gua Shi ; jiu fen and Shi fen. Will be good enough

Understand taipei first before u start travel outside taipei. More over. Now weather is super cold. There's nth to see at ken ding. :)
