Sorry for another gaming rig thread guys.

I have been reading alot and its still confusing to me. I did my own research but alot of technical terms to digest. :s13:

1. I know I want a i5 4670k but I do not know which mobo to get. Especially the brand and how many slots etc.. Can anyone advice?

2. I have been reading lots of r9 280x and gtx 770 threads and both seems to be not a bad choice. I end up deciding on sapphire r9 280x. Anyone can advise?

3. I also need help in getting a reliable casing. Anyone can recommend one? I prefer one that comes with air intake and exhaust.

4. I know ssd get from amazon cheaper so I will most probably get one from amazon.

5. Which monitor to get? Is a 24" monitor good enough? And where have cheap ones? :D

6. LAN, wireless and sound cards important? I guess LAN is important if I want to use wire to connect to modem?

7. PSU I really have no idea. Would appreciate some help. I only know you need to supply enough power to GPU.

Lastly, my budget is around 1.5k hopefully. I seriously doubt I can get the sapphire r9 with this budget. Then what else would be a better alternative? gtx 670 ti or gtx 760?

I really admire the helpful guys here. I can see so many advise thread and everyone tries to contribute. Thank you so much!

1. Do you really want to OC? Coz in order to OC, u need Z87 and a good cooler like h100i. With that budget, it is very hard. You are gonna have to sacrifice something.

2. Both 280x and 770 are comparable in fps and performance. But 280x is around $450 range and 770 is around $550 range. if you intend to go for sapphire, do go for the toxic ver. More ex but can give better performance. Otherwise, go for gigabyte.

3. Go check through all the cases and see which you like. Can only give advice once we know what case you getting. But generally, front and top are set to intake and rear as exhaust. Reason is to create positive airflow to push hot air out of the case via the rear (ideal case).

4. Get the samsung evo 250gb. 120/128gb not worth the costs.

5. Depends on your budget. If u dun mind glossy, can try Dell S2340L at $219. If u wna matte, can try U2414H at $359.

6. If you can go for wired, get a long Cat6 LAN cable will do. No need for wireless card. As for soundcards, its subjective. But for your budget, skip it for now. Onboard is good enough.

7. If going for single gpu, 600-650w is the safe area. If going xfire/SLI, 850w is the safe area.

I presume this rig is mainly for gaming? If so, focus more on gpu. If not gonna OC cpu, get i5-4570 + B85 mobo and the diff in $$ can get a better gpu.

sapphire r9 280x is very expensive and it only has 2 year warranty.
You getting 4670k must get z87 mobo to overclock. If you not planning to overclock, dont waste your money since you will also need a good cooler like the noctua d14 or h100i.

1.5k can get the r9 280x de. So long you do not do overclocking.

Go for giga, msi, or brands that has 3 years instead of 2 years warranty. Although yes Sapphire has some good reviews on their r9 280x.

Asrock b85 Killer + i5-4430 ~ $341
Gskills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit Red ~ $113
WD Blue 1tb ~ $75
Crucial m500 240gb ~ $155 (Amazon)
Gigabyte r9 28XOC 3gb 3x Windforce ~ $439
Superflower HX500 500w 80+ Gold Semi Modular ~ $88 (If Tradepac dont have got to ask them pull stocks or go over to Mynextcom and purchase)
Corsair Graphite T230 ~ $105
Dell s2340L 23inch eIPS panel ~ $219

Total ~ $1535. Buy at tradepac. DIY

Thanks for the advise! Actually I also not sure if OC-ing is necessary. So if I do not plan to OC, should I get the 4670 instead? And what mobo should go along with it?

Yeah. I read alot of US webby so whenever I see their prices, I thought still affordable. :s13: After realising how expensive Singapore will be selling.. I also have thoughts of maybe downgrading the GPU.

Yo! Thanks for the detailed reply. Appreciate it. Regarding the SSD, is it this one?
And yes, I mainly want to use it for gaming which is why I took interest in the sapphire r9 280x. I believe with this rig, normal internet usage and downloading should be no problem as well.

What about the 4670 without the K for OC? Will that be a better alternative while I dont go for the r9?

Casing - CM HAF 912 advanced with 3.0 usb a good choice?

If not OC, 4570 will do. U cant feel the diff of 100mhz. $$ diff can b channel elsewhere, better case mayb... not a fan of cooler master.. so much mesh, attract dust.

But since u on budget and need monitor as well, go wif roy's build.

u might want to state your usage as well.. if it is just gaming, even a cheaper i5 4440 is enough.
As for casing wise, just choose something that pleases your eyes and has good airflow.
you wont go wrong with corsair casings :)

I went to research everything. :s13:

Guess I will settle with Asrock b85 Killer + i5 4430. Next time if I upgrade to i5 K, at least the mobo can be use to OC also. Not a waste.

I got a question with the GPU. The PSU you listed is 500W. However, if I want to get the sapphire toxic, will the power supply be enough? I did find out about the gigabyte r9 280x windforce. I actually went to SLS today and took a fuwell price listing. Both Windforce and Sapphire are listed at $509. So I very confuse about which one is better. Can advise?

Saphhire Toxic -
750 Watt Power Supply is required.
1000WattPower Supply is recommended for CrossFireX™ System.
2X150 Watt 8-pin PCI Express power connector is required.
4X150 Watt 8-pin PCI Express power connector is required for CrossFireX™ system.

Also, the b85 mobo and cosair T230 casing can fit the GPU?

oh! and the OS how? 64bit or 32 bit? And where to get a cheap OS? :s13:

And thank you roy for the rig!

Just use roy's rig.

Yeah! Looking into it now.

I think I will get a 4430 as per what roy said. I went to read the review and they say its not bad. Hopefully so. Because the next upgrade would be a 4/8 hyper threading core maybe. :D

Yeah! Thanks for the reply. I am getting corsair casing as recommended. Looks good! My usage is mainly downloading in the background and playing games. Not much video editing and photoshops. I still use paint for editing if need be. :s13:

You cant OC much on a B85 killer. Fully unlocked OC is supported by Z87. Dun expect high OC coming from B85 killer, to be the same as getting from Z87.

500W is bare minimum and sufficient if you dun do any OC. Otherwise, get a 600-650w psu.

All can fit into the corsair 230T. roy typed wrong. get 64-bit OS since u wun be limited by the 4gb ram.

I see. Thanks for the heads up! regarding the 500W.. So you mean to say that r9 toxic is enough with 500W? I dont need to get a higher one? I also see a few others asking this question in other forums.. but no answer. :s13:

OS get from tradepac better or elsewhere? If so how much is it roughly?

Yeah. I can see the price difference. But what I wanted to point out was that fuwell is selling sapphire toxic and winforce as the same price. So I thought maybe tradepac will be at the same price as well. If really same price, then which one should I go for. Toxic?

What i stated here with price is what tp will most likely sell it to you.

But if you know how to bargain your way thru, you will end up being able to slash the prices further.

Fuwell will never be the same price as tradepac. Thats for sure. Cause TP is targeting another shop in SLS trying to undercut that shop which i would say is still somewhat cheaper than Fuwell. lol

OS is at 115-120 win 7 and 8.1 respectively.

Single gpu as long as no oc, a 500w psu is enough.

Fuwell is chop carrot place. Go there if your head is big enough for them to chop.

Win 7 HE 64-bit is around $115-120.

500w is enough. But if u gonna OC your gpu, i think get 600-650 to be on the safe side.

I went to TradePac today and all the parts you listed are out of stock. :s13:

Really good business for them. He subsequently ask me to get i5-4440+B85 Killer,

Asrock b85 Killer + i5-4430 ~ $341 >>>> Asrock B85 Killer + i5-4440 ~ $345
Gskills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit Red ~ $113
WD Blue 1tb ~ $75
Crucial m500 240gb ~ $155 (Amazon)
Gigabyte r9 28XOC 3gb 3x Windforce ~ $439 >>> Sapphire R9 280xOC ~ $385
Superflower HX500 500w 80+ Gold Semi Modular ~ $88 (If Tradepac dont have got to ask them pull stocks or go over to Mynextcom and purchase)
** No more Superflower. Supplier never send anymore he say. He recc Seasonic Modular 620W - $115
Corsair Graphite T230 ~ $105 *He say 119
Dell s2340L 23inch eIPS panel ~ $219 >>> No more dell. I saw samsung 23.6" for $265 (worth it?)

Since so many parts not available, I was thinking if I should just throw my money on i7 4770k with a good mobo instead. GPU I can upgrade next time. So in the meantime I can get a $200+ GPU? Budget wise, I dont mind upping them for a few hundreds.

What do you think Roy? Feasible? Cos i7 will be future proof right?

Fuwell is chop carrot place. Go there if your head is big enough for them to chop.

Win 7 HE 64-bit is around $115-120.

500w is enough. But if u gonna OC your gpu, i think get 600-650 to be on the safe side.

Ya. I avoid fuwell just now. lol

What do you think of the above proposal as well? :D

EDIT: I do know that for gaming, i7 is not required.

What for... i5 is future proof as well. Who says i5 will die next yr and i7 can last for 10 yrs?

And you are going for gaming, Getting a $200 gpu is just slapping youself only as u WILL upgrade it later for sure. Might as well cut down on cpu and get a better gpu.

As for dell s2340l, can try from other shops. Not sat only tradepac sell that model.

No an i7 is not mean by future proofing.

Good pricing for the gpu. But take note of the 2 years warranty

That is most probably the m12 psu. Try asking for g650 instead.

Dell monitor shud have. Go to the 3rd floor that sells printers and monitor. Cant rmb the shop name. He is offering $30 off cash and carry. Should also be 219.

Hi Guys!

I pmed roy but he bo hiu me. I think most of you guys think I wasting your time. But I am really getting a new rig and not wasting you guys time.

Therefore, I would like to apologize first if you guys are offended. (I read the other thread about that troll. :s13:)

After much research again,

I have decided to up my budget to try and go for the 4670K. I will not overclock now but in the future I would.

Processor i5 4670K Z87-A Z87-Pro
Mobo Asus Z87-A / Pro 522 583
RAM G.Skill Ripjaw (2133 - 4gb*2) 135 135
GPU Gigabyte R9 270X Winforce OC wBF4 339 339
PSU Seasonic M1211750 (750W) 139 139
Harddisk WD Blue 1 TB 74 74
Casing Cosair Graphite Series T230 / 119 119
Optical D Asus 24x DVD SATA 24 24
OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM 115 115
Monitor Samsung 23.6" S24B350TL 265 265
1732 1793 <-total

The mobo I get Pro is that okay? Or is it better if I switch to Asrock extreme6?

Then will my PSU be enough? Since I will overclock in the future.

SSD I already ordered from amazon. I paid 148.50sgd.

The samsung monitor is it a good choice? (I dont mind getting one this range if its a good monitor.)

The ram good choice?

GPU I will get 270x then do a crossfire in the future.

Thank you in advance! Really appreciate it!
