First timer needs help building a gaming rig..

Once u OC ur cpu, it will burn up to 90+c degrees, as u dun hav a good cooler for it. Nees at least $100.

And to get a k cpu with b85 mobo, u can only oc by a bit, mayb ard 4.0 or so. Whereas ppl can oc much higher with z87 fully unlocked.

I not going to OC now. When I going to OC will ask you again for cooler recommendation.

Hmm. Good point about the maximum OC. I saw a video in youtube, this guy OC his b85 killer to 4.55. But he using i7.

if you want to experience OC, you can OC your GPU, not the CPU.
if for gaming purposes, go for high end GPU that you can overclock and a case that has good airflow.

One more question. My ssd will be coming next month so I will have to install my os on my blue harddisk. When my ssd arrive, I have to uninstall the os on my harddsik first then reinstall in the ssd?

1 is for OCing and 1 is for entry OCing

It's not worth it, u barely feel the difference

It's better to channel the $ to a better gpu or ssd

U can clone it, but it's better to do a fresh install

They do, u can still push it further thx to their non-ref cooler design

The b85 killer is nt designed to withstand high OC. Whereas z87 mobo are designed to, depending on brand. Some cateted to go extremely high, etc. But, b85 kiler is moderate. Might as well dun do.

I would give you my opinion instead. Is up to you to choose either one.

For me i would go for msi.

Nearer rma centre for me. It is at amk.

All fan connectors are pwm with bios control (all are standard 4 pins)

Creative suite sound. Its not a sound card but a dac to tune it before leaving to output devices.

Has small features to use with msi gpu like vga boost. Easy set to oc, silent or fast cool down.

Dragon mosfet heatsinks.

Dragon logo on chipset match with gpu.

Cool things that comes with it like door hanger that states "do not disturb, im gaming"

The moment you buy a new pc and open boxes the value drop by at least 10% if not 20%

So make sure you get all you need and want (z87) or else you are just gonna lose even more when backside itchy to go upgrade.

Imo i think if you are new to OCing better not do it yet until like quite some time after you been in the DIY scene. By then you should have a rough idea of what is the best part to buy and what are needed. Don't blur blur throw your money in now ma... later next time you might regret not buying the right parts. In addition, current haswell temps are quite high, since you are new to ocing, i advice you not to get into it first until at least a better intel cpu is out and that it will be easier to tame a slightly cooler beast.

Oc is easy and I don't even have much experience.

Matter of finding out median multiplier (usually 42-43) for haswell and median vcore( safe 1.3v) and reducing vcore slowly as much as possible before suffering bsod.

It's overclocking rams that are hard. Trying to reduce latency timings on my 2400mhz rams are damn bitchy.

My rig, my brother's rig and his friends rig all msi board and gpu. Even my brother laptop also msi. Haha.

As I read, if you don't really know if you want to oc and you have a budget. Get a better gpu. Because cpu speed don't really matter much. A good card can last longer.

I started with a b75 and non oc chip but I got a top of the end gpu, then 7970. Gaming was a breeze with no issues.

After which I got bored and went to try oc-ing. Not a big difference in using the rig, but I got to play with settings and indept understanding of cpu cooling.

problem is not sure if TS budget enough ma... want OC and 280x plus monitor with 1.8k enough?

the 290 price he quoted there is reference card leh... probably oos le for reference. hmmm or probably price drop not sure also.... haven't go SLS for quite some time hahaha need to quit poisoning myself

I got my rig already. Thanks for all the help guys! Every opinion and advise matters alot to me.

I am on my way to buy sata cable for hard disk now. Jcb.. they never include inside my hoots.

I hope when I go back and press the on button everything will be fine.


Btw.. my sapphire r9 290 needs 8 pin + 6 pins. My psu have this 6+2 split to another 6+2 for pcie. How to connect ah?

The rest of the rig I think no problem. Now left the cable to connect disk drive and hard disk missing.

Then gpu have any wire to connect to motherboard? The gpu give me 3-4 cables. I also blur.

Nvm la. I not going to oc now. And when I do want to oc.. I will save up for cooler and a z87 lo. I get b85 I already save 100 plus to throw in gpu.

I really scared after I power on then the thing explode. Haha
