Looking for a second opinion if the navi gpu is having issue with afterburner as the screen will start to flicker at every 5 to 10 seconds continuously the moment custom fan curve is applied. The flickering issue is gone immediately when custom fan curve is disabled or when switched to 120hz.
The monitor will run flawlessly at 144hz without flickering on afterburner provided the custom fan curved is set to disabled. But that also means that the card runs quiet but thermally inefficient as radeon wattmans default fan curve only blows about 50% fan at 68c. My preferred fan curved is about 70% at 68c. Running custom curve on wattman also doesn't seem a great solution as the fan fluctuates very intensively and doesn't reflect an accurate reading thus increasing noise while lowering temps unnecessarily.
Have tried
>switching dp cables and hdmi with no effect (hdmi is not known to support 144hz so I don't know)
>updated to the latest adrenalin driver (using DDU)
>Both latest afterburner official and beta
Have not
>tried using another 144hz monitor (it is my one and only newly late sep purchase)
>tried on another gpu e.g.nvidia that is capable of 144hz.
>overclocked
>no overheating or throttling
Hence before I offload the navi card for 2070super hope anyone can shield light that it is a glitch that has yet to be rectified with an update from either afterburner or AMD.
Currently I am only left with the following option to eliminate flicker
>running over 73c without custom fan curve but with stable 144hz
>running under 69c with custom fan curve but 120hz
It appears to be happening to others
