Big family reunion...CJ is out...usually have the cj la mian xiao long bao. so yeah don't rly want CJ. SCDH also out..don't want sichuan cuisine.

tried before wah lok few months back. not bad but not as good as before I heard. changed chefs.

i'll check out chef chan and lei garden.

I like Lei Garden's double boiled soups but they aren't cheap, at least not for the good ones. Chef Chan just handed over the reins to his "disciple". Personally I hosted a dinner at Chef Chan Oden Towers and SAM before. When he was still at Oden Towers, food was good but pricing a little steep. When he moved to private dining at SAM, it was quite a rip off and food quality for some dishes was a joke. Alot of us were pissed at the end of the dinner. Just sharing :o

CJ at Taka is a proper Chinese restaurant - not the la mian crap...hahah

If you aren't careful, the bill can run up to over S$3k for 10 person (happened to us once) but good thing company was picking up the tab

I just tried Wah Lok 2 months back - I thought the standard was still quite okay - or at least no different from the previous time I went (I usually get invited there once every 3 months...hahah)

Lei Garden is okay but not quite consistent - we had a steamed fish returned once cos it was awful - my host was a Hongkonger - you can't bluff him when it comes to freshness of the fish :s13:

Chef Chan has passed the cooking to his head student but I think the standard should still be there - the last time I was there, Chef Chan did more PR work than actual cooking...then again, maybe it was also because of my host bah - rich people commands more respect than me a commoner :s22:

No Royal China won't bust your budget. But from what I've eaten, I only like their cod. The other stuff were ok but not really worth the $ imho. And Yan Ting's food isn't very good so don't bother. :o
