Maybe National Skin Centre is better for your foot rot problem? :o

Btw try to keep your foot dry and as clean as possible. Try to change socks every day, or even twice a day by changing it during one of your breaks. :o

Don't change socks -- smelly socks ish jin erotic.

haha. But very effective wor. No kiddding. The relief after the pain is almost instantaneous. after the 青草油 dries up the area is not itchy liao and actually managed to recover. Because the fungus take roots under the skin i think which is why it is needed to peel off the skin, or break any blisters and put 青草油directly on it. i tried to put 青草油 without peeling skin on the affected area but not so effective...

Oh ya and have i mention the pain?:s13::s13: I m kidding its actually more like a sting :s13: But i think the 5 to 10 mins of pain is better than having that horrible itch all over your foot lol.

青草油 works because it contains salicylate acid, which is fungicidal.

Salicylic acid and it's derivatives have no antifungal property. It merely stops the itch by blocking the nervous receptors. It's an analgesia by nature.

The acidity kills the fungus........ that is why a higher concentration is needed.
In Ang Whitfield ointment the active ingredient benzoic acid, works on the same principle too. Withfield oiintment was the standard treatment up to 1970s. Widely used in nursing home, orphanage, and army during WWII.

10% salicylate works, beside acidity, also the keratinolysis effect, which inactivates the fungus cell wall.

10% salicylate doesn't work as analgesia but more of keratolytic. Any changes in pH results in death of most microbes. But fungus don't just harbour at the epidermis. It burrows to the dermis layer and produce pathological effect. Salicylate only able to remove the epidermis layer assuming the epidermis is still intact.

Old remedies have proven to be ineffective in reducing pathological effect, though there is a certain level of symptomatic relief.

Benzoic acid is carcinogenic in nature. No one uses it topically now.

What I'm trying to say is that old remedies can act as reference, but that does not mean it should be safe to use with current knowledge level.

seawater so dirty, wouldn't it worsen the condition of the rot?

As late as 1990, SAF still uses Whitfield ointment for fungus......... alas

In tropical primary health care, essential drugs should be safe, effective, and as inexpensive as possible. To treat the very common dermatophyte infections of the skin, one may use inexpensive Whitfield's preparations, more expensive topical imidazole derivatives, or extremely expensive oral antifungals.

A double-blind trial was performed involving 153 patients with a dermatophyte infection of the skin in Karonga District, Northern Malawi, including 25 patients who were HIV-1-seropositive, comparing Whitfield's cream with clotrimazole cream.

RESULTS:

75 patients were treated with Whitfield's cream and 78 with clotrimazole cream for a period of 6 weeks. Cure rates ranged from 80% to over 90% depending on the definition of cure. If positive cultures after treatment were used as criterion for treatment failure, six were found in each treatment group. One in each treatment failure group was an HIV-1-seropositive patient.

CONCLUSIONS:

The great majority of patients in the tropics with a dermatophyte infection of the skin can be cured with a topical antimycotic preparation and do not need expensive oral therapy. This also proved to be valid for HIV-1-seropositive patients. Whitfield's cream and clotrimazole cream are both very effective. The lower cost makes Whitfield's cream the treatment of choice in dermatophyte infections of the skin in tropical primary health care.

Should nip the source of the problem at its bud though. I'd say that your shoes have some nasty stuff growing in there. Febreeze it thoroughly and perhaps even get a new pair. Put in a pair of unfinished cedar shoe trees to keep the shoes dry and prevent bacteria and fungi from thriving.

Proper foot hygiene. Keep feet dry.

When I got it, my nails got affected too. What I did was apply the cream when I sleep, during the day u apply the footwear will sort of remove it. So i put prickly heat into my socks and it kept it dry.
