As per title, would need recommendations, based on Autodesk abilities.

Cost : minimum 2k is okay, because, i foresee AutoDesk gona be the bulk of the cost.

Would wish to hear different views, even from Aftershock or PCDreams input

P.S would AutoDesk, be the proper path for creating engineering products, testing the simulation within the program to resolve or at least minimize the real physical end product potential pitfalls and flaws.

Im asking, without any prior know how on the Software, which i make it base on the requirements seek from a close friend of mine.
And would, we need to turn to professional mobile work station like HP Elitebook or Dell series?

Actually you will need to get something with Quadros graphics. That is the key importance.

Nvidia Quadro engineered for better stability, CAD, CAM , 2D & 3D Visual design professionals, different from GeForce which more for consumer market.

Quadro graphics consumes less power consumption, get higher OpenGL performance. The IC chip itself might be the same as those Radeon graphic chip, but Quadro chips are tested to run on higher temperatures and the drivers are specifically write for 3D generation. Radeon graphics drivers are focus on frames/second (fsp). Thus even for the same chip, quadro chip can perform up to 40% faster than its equivalent Radeon chip.

One cheaper alternative is to get a Radeon version and load in a quadro driver. You will get the same performance, but the Radeon chip might not be as lasting as the quadro one.

At your budget, we have this on hand at our Laptop Factory Outlet.

HP elitebook 8770W. i7/16GB/750GB 7200rpm+24GB SSD/Quadro K3000 2GB DDR5 Graphics/17.3" FHD.
Demo unit. Retail price is $4k plus.
We are selling at $2850. :)

If you budget is around $2k, probably you have to try the Radeon graphics and put in a quadro driver.

Is it a must to run it on a laptop?

I highly recommend against it and use a proper workstation. Unless you absolutely need the portability, like you work from school and home all the way.

is a asking/ prob from a friend's dad, whom i asked several times, indeed a laptop/mobile workstation is better rather than locking up in the factory over the weekends.:s12:
