I am total newbie in FX. Just want to ask, if the big spike comes, is it possible that someone may lose more than what he has? I read somewhere which says some type of FX trading is similar to margin

It is possible in theory but I would say almost impossible. Even if you don't employ a stoploss when your position loss is 70 to 80 percent of the money you have in account you will trigger a margin call and if you don't top up and losses hit close to your full account value, your positions get automatically liquidated. It is also possible that after liquidation your loss will exceed what you have in account but this rarely happens in reality

Well, my childhood memory (greatly influenced by HK drama ) tells me anything to do with margin is super risky. 炒孖展 = 输身家 is what i learned from those dramas

Just look at vanilla's trade lor. Limited gain unlimited loss type. And if you ask him, he will spin you some stupid theories and next ask you to get a compass to measure direction... Buy only when compass point north and sell when South. Hahaaaaa... Indeed use sextant to measure one's trading. Sibei funny. Wahahaaa.
On a more serious note, you see his trade where he sold call options for a small premium. If the underlying goes up beyond the strike price he will start losing. The higher it goes the more he loses. That's why he dares not answer direct questions like what if vols spike or what if spot spikes 10% either he does not know or he is in self denial. Enough there to conclude that he is a fake trader who knows nuts but pretends to know everything including sextants.
