Mr Canberra,

What is your take on the USDSGD for the next 6 months to 1 year? Do you see it going up to potentially 1.45?

USD/SGD

Mr Canberra,

What is your take on the USDSGD for the next 6 months to 1 year? Do you see it going up to potentially 1.45?

If USD/SGD hits 1.45 that means will face higher inflation for imports. I believe unlikely to hit this level as MAS will intervene.

A few factors influencing the strength of SGD.

1) MAS April 2020 Meeting
2) Fed Jul 2020 FOMC decision to cut rates or not
3) COVID-19 situation
4) US Presidential Election Nov 3rd 2020 -> USD demand will pick up

CONCLUSION: SGD is bearish near to mid term. USD is bullish near to mid term.

Since 8 Oct 2019 need to fork out more cash due to higher margin requirement by MAS so no longer attractive to trade Forex.

These days really feeling the cash crunch. Once position kena trap a lot of cash will be locked up. :vijayadmin:

Better not trade too much in Forex as getting harder and harder to make money.

The SGD is managed on a trade weighted basis where the USD forms the largest component. However, to say that we may face a higher inflation bill if SGD hits 1.45 may not be technically correct... as it is managed on a basket basis, other major components can also weaken and so the SGD may hit 1.45 but without raising the overall imported inflation. Maybe certain goods from the US may cost more but other goods may cost less.

If China devalues it's currency, SGD will follow. I think that is th most important thing to monitor.
