CBH's outlook for the week:
pound-gbp.jpg

I believe we will see the classic case of "buy the rumor, sell the fact" for Brexit deal. I think we will open with a 50-100 pips gap down and then there will be a sell-down.

Trump signs stimulus and government spending bill into law, averting shutdown
Dec. 28, 2020

President Trump unexpectedly capitulated Sunday night and signed the stimulus bill into law, releasing $900 billion in emergency relief funds into the economy and averting a Tuesday government shutdown.

White House officials didn’t explain why the president decided to suddenly back down and sign into law a bill he had held up for nearly a week and had referred to as a “disgrace” just days earlier.

Aussie profit taking ahead of year end: AUD/USD, AUD/JPY
December 29, 2020 3:01 AM

On March 19th, AUD/USD put in a low near 0.5506 and hasn’t looked back since. The pair reached a high of 0.7639 on December 17th and had pulled back slightly to 0.7461 before bouncing again to current levels near 0.7570. If traders who are long AUD/USD are worried about year-end risk, current levels may be a place to take some profits.

A daily chart shows that the pair is nearing resistance at the December 17th highs, as well as horizontal resistance just above from June 2018 near 0.7677. That same level also coincides with the 161.8% Fibonacci extension from the highs of September 1st to the lows of November 2nd.

Nikkei bursts to 30-year highs, prospects bright for 2021
December 30, 2020

From a technical perspective, the Nikkei 225 has generally kept pace with major US indices like the S&P 500 throughout the year, but the prospects for near-term outperformance are bright in the Land of the Rising Sun. Yesterday’s rally took the index out of a “high base” or “bullish flag” pattern, signaling that the Nikkei 225 is potentially poised for further near-term gains after consolidating for more than a month below 27,000:

The “measured move” objective of this pattern sits above 30,000, though even if prices do reach that level, it’s unlikely that the rally will be as rapid or as smooth as we saw through November. In any event, the technical bias in the index will remain to the topside as long as prices remain above yesterday’s breakout level near 26,900.

After decades of lackluster performance, 2021 could be a happy new year indeed for Nikkei bulls.

maybe some good news for JPY if more fund managers rush in
