Start playing old games like Crysis2 and Fear3. Both in single player mode. Initially everything is extremely smooth, but after playing like 10mins, the FPS drop a lot until quite unplayable.. After stop for a while, the game can still be played smoothly for another 5-10mins.
I remember the specs on my rig can handle such games well, thus I feel something might be wrong.

Once in a blue moon, like maybe 1mth or so, the rig power off even during surfing net.

Using quite a old rig like the specs I have on my right. Game is installed on the 1tb hard disk.

SSD left ard 20gb (6 years)
1tb hard disk left ard 200gb. (3-5 years)
One of the GPU fan is a bit faulty, sometimes doesn't spin well.

I cant pin down on where is the problem, would appreciate any help or point of view..

Experience a similar problem before, on an old gtx 650ti. Turns out that fan was not spinning according to stated RPM and thermals was fluctuating quite a bit. Shifted it from a old gaming rig to a HTPC. Flushed out dust inside the HSP and replaced thermal paste, seem to temporarily fix the problem, not sure if this applies to you but you could try it out if there isn't any warranty left

Thermal throttling.

The gpu fan may not keep up with the heat output when you game. It has to protect itself before the card burns out. Hence whenever you game for a couple mins, the gpu just wont handle the gaming load.

You can try a few things. Get a can of compressed air, blow out the entire rig. Ger rid most of the dust.

It could be dust that causes your gpu fan to "dont spin well". Dust out as much as possible. DO NOT use vacuum cleaner. It can kill components if you do so.

After dusting out, try again see if the fans are working well. If it doesnt, then high likely you will need to replace the gpu.

Another way is to get a replacement cooler from ebay or alibaba. If the price justify then fine. If it isnt then just buy a new gpu.

Does this apply to GPU only? Or CPU too?
Anyway to check which is the problem one if apply to both?

Sounds like it's your GPU. Fans are supposed to keep things cool in there and GPUs need a rather cool environment to run smoothly. When it doesn't get that much air, it doesn't cool off as much and either shuts down or just screws up. Think of shutting down, or restarting as a failsafe. Get the fan fixed and see if that helps. And it pretty much applies to anything in there that heats up, parts that are exposed to the fan.

You are funny. you already wrote down the cause of the problem.

You can buy a case fan and tie to the side of the gpu

Yea. U already mentioned one of the GPU fan faulty. Ur gpu is throttling cos too hot. If no warranty already can see if u can swap out the fan. Else replace ur gpu
