Franchise 7-11 or Cheers

Hi guys,

Am thinking of quitting my job and thinking of doing franchise for a small store like cheers or 7-11.
May I know if anyone here has/had franchise a stall from 7-11 or cheers?

Was wondering is it feasible and worth the time and "money invested". How much profit can we look at?

During my group tour last year to Italy, one of families mentioned they are on 7-11 franchise. 7-11 will assign you a mix of stores with both good and bad locations, not up to you. Sorry dats what i remembered only, doesnt sound that easy oso.

I think the biggest headache will be managing the staff. You should know what kind of staff you will be expected to deal with.

There are a lot of convenience shops and many are in close proximity. Next, there are neighbourhood provision shops and minimarts as well.

From what I see, the ones surviving well are those that also sell fresh produce. A reason why iecon minimarts are dwindling because they don't sell fresh produce.

7-11.

They tend to have better mix of promotion, range and customers. From what I recalled 7-11 is the banner in DFI that are raking in profits. Not too sure about now, due to the current external and internal conditions. Their crowds demographics tend to have better spending power as compared to Cheers. One have more foreigners and office crowds, the other more towards younger crowds e.g. young adults/ youths.

Go in store and look at their layout and range, then compare with Cheers.

However, I don't think DFI is in a very healthy state since they had closed down several big stores (Giant) which I presumed to have good crowds. Though this is just an observation since I do not have their P&L. Perhaps due to the downsizing and consolidation, they could be more agile in this competitive sector.

As for Cheers, it is under FairPrice which is ultimately under NTUC. Being a GLC and having a major market share, I assume they have better advantage at getting certain locations. Look around their stores and the property they are in. That should give you a rough idea.

Frankly, I wouldn't do it. lol

Go watch this Thai movie "The Billionaire". Its a true story about the founder of this seaweed brand "Taokaenoi" and how he made it big and cleared his family's debts.

In the film he started working with 7-11. Maybe can learn from there.

Heard from a friend whose relative used to run a 7-11. You have to deal with staffing yourself and another thing is thefts (staff and customers inclusive) eats into your profits. She got a very good location with constant human traffic so she did well and did make money.

7-11 has much much better strategy than Cheers in terms of 24h convenience store. Cheers literally has no fight.
