Hi all,

This is the first time I'm overclocking. I set the CPU multiplier to 46 and my manual voltage of 1.2v. Everything boots up to windows fine but when i run Aida stress test my CPU freezes after 30sec to 1 min, when my temperatures were fine at less than 60 degrees.

May I know what could have caused the freezing? Increase the voltage?

I found the solution. I had set my min/max cache ratio multiplier at 46. Problem solved when I switched to auto for both. Testing 4.6 at 1.175 volts :)

which cpu and mobo are you using?

at 4.6 ghz, usually need at least 1.3x to run stable.

heyy man your asking this question is really very scary because it shows you dont even know your basics and you dont even bother to search google for countless threads on overclocking.

before you start to dabble please do read up first. info is everywhere. dont ask questions like this.

also ask yourself WHY you are overclocking. If its for sport, i would exercise a greater degree of caution, unless of course you just do not care. Then please have fun

Thanks all for the advice. Actually I did read up online and watch the videos on overclocking by linustech. Regarding min max cache ratio the general guide I read did not cover them and there was rather mixed replies on the net. I followed one that asked me to set 1:1 with my core multiplier. I had tried to google extensively for my specific problem and could only find the one thread above. The other potential issue was that my ram was faulty which I checked to ensure it's not by running memtest. I'm using a 4790k on a z97 pro as it's the first time I'm overclockkng so I'm feeling quite overwhelmed by the info online. Managed to find a solution and all's working out now so thanks everyone. I wanted to overclock because I've not done it before and thought I should try. All is good at 4.6 on 1.2v (1.175 failed) so I'll be sticking with this mild overclock. Thought everyone has to start somewhere and I did..
