Fresh Windows Install Through USB Windows Media Creation Tool

Currently, my system is running Windows 10 Pro. If I do a fresh reinstall through USB stick having downloaded the Media Creation Tool, will it install back Pro or Home Premium by default?

Can Windows recognize the existing version while preparing fresh installation? If Home Premium is freshly reinstalled, how do I get back the Pro version?

you can select which version to install.
you can upgrade to Pro with your Pro Activation Key.

There are two licenses which are digital license and product license.
The former simply reactivate itself when you connect to internet, either through registered device or linked microsoft account.
The latter require you to input your license key again.

To know which license your windows is currently using, you can simply check your windows 10 activation in settings.

It is either you input the license key when prompted to, or just log into your Microsoft account if the Windows key is sync to it. There is no option to choose Pro or Home when installing the OS. You only get the option to choose 32 or 64bit if I am not mistaken.

Good take, I was about to say that.

TS, on your existing running windows, create a microsoft email account and set windows default login with your newly created microsoft email account. btw you can set a pin during the sign in.
once done, reboot system one or twice, sign in with your microsoft account, Now you can do a fresh windows installation and by pass the key by pressing,, "I do not have a windows key". when your system boot up. just sign in to your microsoft email account and wala, done. This aid me most of the time, even when I did a fresh installation on Windows 11 lol. once login, everything activated, you don't have to worry about anything.
