From Private Degree to Masters

Has anyone heard of cases where people who done well in their private degrees move on to the local unis Masters ? Like Ntu or NUS. The requirements were stated as a degree with good honours.
I'm considering that path..
almost 3-6 ppl from sim-uol going from private degree to LSE masters each year.. surely its possible. It not just ur degree, personal statement, gmat score(if required), work experience, performance in interview, recommendation all these matters in masters application.
my advice is enhance your capability by either
1, doing something you are passionate about or
2, being extremely driven in achieving ur goal

Was looking in the field of I.T .. well because i am interested in it..Linux and servers are my thing :3
But knowing I.T they prefer certifications like Red Hat and MSCE. ... oh well but i guess having masters wouldn't harm either.

First of all, you must have special relationship with the company you are working in or they want to groom you. If not, the company won't want to spend time helping you to provide 2 reference letters.

can use professors as reference too..there is always a way to get it.. not an issue i feel.

how did you manage to progress?I'm going to LSE for masters this coming sept too. I'm in the finance industry and was from sim Uol. It's definitely possible as long as u have good acceptable results. For me, my work didn't exactly help much. I didn't really write about my work in my personal statement and the referees required are strictly academic but I know some other sch do accept referees from your workplace

if it is a research master that you intend to apply leading to PhD, then a private degree might not be sufficient.
but if it is coursework masters such as MBA, typically they will accept private degree (Ps: the term is technically incorrectly, the degrees are mostly awarded by fully accredited government funded universities from UK and Australia but offered in singapore through private institutions ).
Of course others factors of consideration include working experience, GPA and how strong your recommendation letters are.
worst case, even if you cannot make the cut for a local university Masters, go for a "private universities Masters." there are over 100 choices in singapore.

is honors a big deal for going to masters? Some universities masters i see don't need honors. I guess it does play a part though.

It really depends on which university you're heading to. Some masters courses are less competitive so an honours may be optional. For the more competitive ones, even when they say honours is not required, competition may drive the need for honours.
Also, masters courses actually see less competition than for entry than undergrad degrees, so it is easier to get into local uni masters courses than to undergrad courses, also because masters students provide good money for the universities. But of course, this only applies to coursework programs.
I think nowaday even "non-private" undergraduate can hardly get into a research masters.
Some masters may accept non-honours with an extra year of studies.

point is have u asked yourself why do u want a masters? for face to "cover" the private bach u have or to have a successful career? but do note that a successful career is not based on how sexy your qualifications are, networking coupled with good knowledge of the employment market are the keys to success
