Need help, currently looking for a NAS with FTP Client.

Main purpose is to connect to a Seedbox and download files directly into the NAS without going through a PC/Laptop.

Remote access to the FTP Client will be even more helpful.

Does your seedbox only offers FTP connectivity ? Do you have shell access to this seedbox ? The thing is it doesn't necessarily must be initiated from the NAS all the time, the seedbox if has shell access and some unix utilities for you to use, you can use it to mount your NAS remotely or perform the FTP or SCP or other file transfer protocol available to your NAS.

In this case any NAS will work just fine. If the situation requires you MUST initiate from your NAS, then you have to get a NAS with shell access that allow you to manipulate the tools from within.

I am not acquaintance with other NAS solution, Synology can setup download via torrent, http, nzb and ftp that you can use. You can also schedule the tasks.

Cant get shell access since it's not a dedicated server.

So there isn't any out-of-box NAS with this capability?

There are plenty of GPL source for FTP client so finding one that suit your need shouldn't be a problem, just need the correct toolchain to compile or cross-compile from source.

Why don't use wget instead, this is readily available as standalone program or via Busybox applet.

Thanks, i haven't got a NAS yet, so considering which brand to purchase with the least headache to get the FTP Client functionality. Prefer a simple FTP UI like Filezilla to browse and download the files.

For "headless" device like NAS, the only option is to use CLI or one with webUI client. Filezilla if I'm not wrong is GUI.

You may wish to refer to this wiki for more info.

And I can confirm that you can download your seed box contents to Synology NAS like the example above. I am doing That today. I can also initiate the transfer from seed box to NAS through iPad but it does take a few different apps and steps.

Cannot find FTP Client

Hi,

I still can't seem to find a synology ftp gui client that lists the files / folders and lets you download them. Anyone had any luck from the last posts?

I can't see or find anywhere where you can actually browse the remote FTP files and folders to choose what you want to download??
