Hi everyone, I am planning to go taiwan in December. However it will be a little different as i am not going to commercial places but rather going up the mountains for Cingjing.

I want to to ask about Cingjing. Are nantou, hualien and yilan the only there that has Cingjing? As i plan for abt 10 day trip, i am not sure if nantou even can cover up to abt 10 days so if there are other Cingjing that i can go to, how should i split it? thanks..

I went to taiwan 10 years ago. But this time in December i plan to go again for about 10 days. I want to explore taiwan rural cities,a different side of taiwan. I dont like shopping. I read about Cingjing in nantou but it seems like most people only go there for day trips or like 2-3 day stays in nantou. So may i ask where other cities have such similar rural that i can go? Like hualien, yilan etc. And how should i split the 10 days between rural cities? Need more help here..for what other rural cities that have attractions also

There is only one Cingjing, and it is in nantou. To answer your question on hualien and yilan, yes there ae. Taroko gorge for hualien and maybe wufengchi at yilan

10 days can go Taichung, nantou (including cingjing, hehuanshan, sun Moon lake), taroko gorge and hualien. All in the middle part of Taiwan.

3D2N in cingjing is more than enough imho

Pack more cold wear. Temperatures in the mountains goes to 0 in the nights. Best to get rooms that comes with heating or electric blankets.

Yilan is a bit further up north nearer to Taipei.

Cingjing is a touristy place not a rural place.
Rural place are not cities but small towns and there are no "attractions" in small towns.
Small towns are mostly farming towns, no accommodations. So don' know how you want to get there with no public transport unless you rent a car to drive.
If you are into climbing, then climb Yu Shan but permit required.

If you are referring to Hualien, Yilan, then these are not rural places.
I have been to rural places but need a car and only day trip.

from hehuan, you can return to taipei via yilan on the highway 7. lots of aboriginal villages for you to stay along the way and experience the rural life. huanshan (round mountain, nanshan (south mountain), shiji (four seasons) to name a few. :)

What do you mean by govt run lodge?? Is it minsu

lodges run by the forestry or national park authorities for the public.

for hehuan, normally, they require full payment or at least some deposit during booking time. but as foreign visitors, you can opt to pay on arrival. cherish your privileges and their trust. please don't abuse it.
